If you are asking us if you should set up a business, then you definitely should NOT set up a business with the money. Do so only when you know what you want to do and have to passion and will to see it through.

Depends when you think you'll need the cash. If you're planning to spend it in less than three years, then you'll want to keep it in the bank; if you're planning to spend it in less than five years, you'll want to put it in the bank and in bonds; if you can keep it invested for more than five years, then you can invest in stocks as well.

I mean, you got the cash and you're here looking for ideas, and you got them too. Now you wanna know all the details and how to execute the idea too? Why not he give the money away instead? You know, when you buy a stock, even your broker wants to get a commission from your trade... no one is going to give you free advice.

Erm, if you have to ask this question, I will say it's not ok.
Pls read more in shiny's thread, learn more about what are the risk and time frame before you do anything.

Nope, not OK. I'm assuming you live in Singapore, right? If you do, you're going to want to invest in the STI for starters, instead of the S&P 500.

Yea, STI is a good idea. I'd say you can get decent returns even if you're fully vested in SG only.

Thanks Shiny!

Yea I'm from SG. Just wondering, is the market for sti relatively ok now for me to buy (prob about 80k or so) or should I wait for a certain pricing. Not sure how to look at it, but my friends are telling me to wait.

Sorry for the questions.. still learning so advices from pp like you are what's gonna form my learning and decision making for now.

I guess if you have the conviction that the price will go down (that's why you want to wait), then the right step is not to be idle (wait) but instead to short sell it (sell it now and buy at lower price later to make money).

Usually people who employ passive index investment is to diversify and not to time the market. We acknowledge that we could not predict the price. That's why we invest the same amount regularly (yearly, twice a year, or monthly).

If I were you, I will just buy STI regularly.

hahaha, your friends ask u to wait, but some pple here ask u to buy, who shld u listen?

Make your final decision by learning how to read the charts. If u decided to buy the STI etf, look at the STI chart, is it on a downtrend or uptrend? Use the simple technique taught by Adam Khoo, using moving averages, it will tell u is STI on a downtrend or uptrend now.

Another point to consider, dun dump all your 80k at one go.

With so much uncertainties, and the "crash" the past few days, does not make sense to buy now.

Use all these pointers to consider/make your decision. Ask them why u shld not buy now, why u shld buy now, and learn in this process.

Goodluck!
