Expensive? It's biz class wor...maybe you should accumulate till you can redeem all in biz class. Then you will still be paying ard $1700 but 2 pax biz return tickets to lhr, you might not think its so exp then.
but the miles will have increased so much i cannot afford... haha

I am thinking of booking a flight too, but seems
Like not enough miles for 2 persons at the moment. Not sure if I should just book economy after the change to make it more worthwhile.

* I mean current miles not enough for business(1 way) + economy(1 way) for 2 persons.

Also a hassle to transfer from their Eurostar station to Airport. I'd just book a flight to CDG / FRA / BRU.

My personal view for this change is general:
1. Raise the value of miles for economy flight ticket redemption.
2. Decrease the value of miles for business and first class ticket redemption.

then how to get from london to paris? domestic flight?

If u want to fly, can consider using avios. Citibank can transfer to that. Avios is cheap for short distance. Just redeem economy will do, intra Europe business is crap mostly.

Alternatively there are train and bus.

@dahpro the reason for asking if I can change my tickets after booking is because I will be changing jobs and am concerned my new job does not allow me to fly during the stipulated dates. So need back up dates...

Then it's risky, if there's flights available for immediate confirmation then you have to waitlist. You don't seem to have enough miles to do that.

My company n CX are very, very closely related. So no choice, gotta support own business. To be frank, I'm surprised I can get full miles for all my business travels.

I see. Unless you're flying on staff rates, I don't see why they would refuse to credit your miles. I'm sure you know HKG inside out by now :) Which is better, The Pier or The Wing? I still can't reach a definitive conclusion :/

i was exploring the possibility of going london with 144k miles in 1 account and 64k miles in another. and i can SIN LHR on econs and LHR SIN on biz. but GOSH, close to $1700 SGD on taxes for 2 pax. that is crazy...

It's LHR you're talking about. It's notorious for the ridiculous APD. Flying to Europe and taking a domestic flight/train is better.

I am thinking about Germany too.
London really too hard to redeem and very high airport tax, I personally think not really worth it.

Strongly recommend redeeming at least the return segment on LH F, so you can try out the FRA FCT. It's incredible :)

Depending on the destination, you can consider Lifemiles or Avios too. Alternatively you could calculate the YQ involved, and if it's not too bad you can wait till after 23 Mar to issue the ticket. This way you have more time to accumulate those miles you need.

Can you explain to me what you mean by LH F and FRA FCT? :s11:

LH F = Lufthansa First Class
FRA FCT = Frankfurt First Class Terminal

(I think.)

Bingo. LH built a dedicated terminal for its first class / HON circle members. The beverages list is over 30 pages long, with 16 or so different brands of water and 5 different champagne. You also get a car ride from the terminal to the plane on the tarmac, usually in either a Porsche (I think they use the Cayenne now) or a Merc S-Class. Now if only TPR is almost comparable to what LH offers...

Erm, not one does airport to train station immediate connection nor train station to airport immediate connect. usually will stay in the city for a few days before heading to the airport. trains are more convenient than flights as the stations are usually in better locations than airports and also there's no 2-3 hours check-in time (as compared to flights).

PSA:

For those who have followed a certain blogpost about buying Avios points using the shopping portal, some of you may have had your eHarmony account closed. Please request for a full refund as it will not be honored. Even if it shows up as pending, eventually it will be denied when BA verifies your profile with the merchant.

For those who followed my method, my account is still in good standing as of now, so you guys should be safe for now. If you do get any emails, do let me know. I will also update here if I receive any news.

Please do not pm me asking more about the method, as the promo period is already over. You can however clarify if you may be affected. Cheers.

is it worth to redeem for pre econ instead ?

The short answer is no.

The long answer is maybe, under very specific circumstances. One possibility could be that you're flying long haul, and do not have enough miles for J. PY is only marginally better than Y, I don't find it being able to justify the increased miles cost. PY cost is closer to J than Y, so I would say to redeem for J whenever possible, or just stick to Y. The only time I would consider PY is buying it as a revenue ticket, and do a J upgrade with miles.
