Jus burn it..think so hard for what..esp if one has way too much surplus

that would depends on whether the miles are through manufacture spending. If 1 could possible get unlimited miles, I would agree to that bah, if not, would still be prudent to redeem wisely even if one has 1-2m miles

while it may not be the best use of the miles, I would say thanks for helping to contribute. Cuz if everybody use on biz/first, think SQ going to devalue more

I cannot afford first class or business in terms of miles + cash mah.... so this is the best option for me. :)

But I notice for Long haul flight, the miles required is more than 15% miles discount but the extra miles cost is about $0.03miles

For short haul flight, the miles required is exactly 15% miles discount but the extra miles cost is higher, about $0.06/miles

Eg: Long haul
SIN-BCL needs 59500miles but now need 76000miles, which is about 28% more miles but the cash payment is difference of $423.80 ($0.03/mile)

Eg: short haul
SIN-MLE needs 31450miles but now need 37000miles, which is exactly 15% more miles but the cash payment is difference of $306 ($0.06/miles)

There's no longer any point in comparing old and new because the system is already updated. Furthermore, it was not differentiated by long haul vs short haul, but rather by whether is the route only involved in a "removal of 15% discount" or is it topped by a miles adjustment. The cash portion is dependent on the YQ, which is location specific and not based on distance. Say you redeem tickets to HKG after today, you will only be worse off compared to yesterday because HKG does not charge YQ at all. You simply need 15% more miles and save zero on cash.

Decent deal! I'm in a way preferring the new system because the cash outlay is simply lesser. Just made some bookings for the year ahead, 6 return tickets in mixed F+J costed me less than $1k in taxes.

6k miles shouldn't be a problem at all, it's simply $1.5k on a 4mpd card :)

You have quite a lot of miles.

I every year can only afford 2 return tickets.

You should have just paid the balance with US$40 * 6 last night, rather than wait till now.

what do you mean?
i rmb if i go ahead to buy miles from krisflyer for the 6k balance, it will cost me like 10 cents per mile.

Milan, what domestic?
I probably will go around Europe, haven't decided where is my last stop (maybe London). then i will just buy one ticket back.

yes 6k miles is not a problem, but i need to have the 6k before midnight yesterday, obviously not possible

Oh I thought you meant that because of the devaluation you now need 6k more for your return.

Additional miles can be purchased at USD40 for 1k, so you could buy the 6k for USD240. All boils down to whether the (miles difference - YQ) is more than USD240, so it may not have been worth it for you.
