They won't let u use SamsungPay at their Ion Orchard office.

I would suggest using a card that offers free travel free insurance with flight tickets bought.

Then amex ascend card bah. One good benefit is compensation for flight delay more than 4hrs.

I usually go down to ION for partner awards, because phone agents usually take a long time to search for flights. You have to tell them the flight/route you want, they place you on hold and goes searching for them, comes back with no availability, repeat the process all over again. Being there physically means we both can sit down and work on the ticket together, with real time communication.

Interesting DP:

SQ seems (read: my assumption) to have increased saver availability on certain routes. I just managed to score 4 x F saver on SQ25/26 in 1 booking, something which was never possible last time. My colleague was able to redeem 6 x J saver for his family to London last week. Anyone else experiencing this as well?

Maybank Horizon Card. 2 miles per $1 for travel expenses.

Note that bonus treats points on the current Maybank Horizon Visa Signature Card (the old one is discontinued) are capped at 30,000 per month, so the 8X treats points for travel expenses is limited. If you spend more than $4,286 you will revert to 1 treats point for all spend above $4,286.

So if you spend $10,000 on air tickets, you will get 8X for $4,286 = 34,285 treats points and 1X or 5,714 treats points for the remainder. Hence in total, you get 40,000 treats points. Since 5 treats points = 2 miles, 40,000 treats points is only 16,000 miles.

Hence for $10K spend you only get 1.6 miles per $1. You can do much better with other cards.

Thanks for the analysis. My bad. I rarely use the horizon card nowadays so not aware of the changes. The last i used was still 2 miles per $.

Edit: just went to read up from maybank website (just in case i need to use the card in future). Was referring to the 5x point for air tix and travel packages. With the cap of 30k bonus treat points, works out to be $7,500 spent. Yup, still not enough to cover the $10k spent.

I only know of this maybank card for offline spent, interested to which other card would reap higher miles.

So within $4286, it's 3.2 miles per dollar.

But what about the FX charges ? How does that compare with UOB which is 2.5% ?

3.2 miles per dollar is for selected txn only: http://info.maybank2u.com.sg/personal/cards/credit/credit-card-for-travel-horizon-signature-visa-card.aspx

I don't have kids myself, but one recommendation from my colleagues was to keep them awake in the day time. This way they will naturally be tired and fall asleep on the flight. I guess it only works for slightly older kids (they were 5 and 7), I assume there's no way you can control an infant's sleep cycle. Nothing gets worse than a crying baby 8 hours into a 12 hours flight :x
It actually depends. Most kids after 2-3 would have some form of fixed sleeping patterns so can sorta adjust. I tend to travel with my kids on all redeye for this very reason. On the day of flight, I'll avoid letting them take their day nap, and keep them busy for the whole day.

By the time they are on board, they would have conked out very quickly.

You guys are the lucky ones, can sleep when you want to.

Also, travelling with kids is another thing altogether. Flew with my son on redeye and he refused to sleep, so one adult had to stay awake to look after him. The adult reached destination like a zombie with a sleeping kid in tow, lucky was with tour group, so just hop on the bus and sleep.

After that, if have to take redeye (due to vastly cheaper flight), we'd book the accommodation 1 day earlier, so reach at like 6 or 8am, can check in and sleep with the kids first, before proceeding with the tour fresher. As always, travel with young kids, you will sleep after the kids sleep, so definitely get much less rest than sleeping from take-off to landing.
One common issues with kids flying is the change in ear pressure resulting in them feeling extremely uncomfortable. So its possibly a good idea if they can suckle something while the flight takes off / land. Drinking milk helps, but if they suck tutu, that would normally be the best.

Thanks for the tips. I had been doing it all "wrongly". I was worried of disturbing their slping cycle..hence i dont travel more than 5hrs with them n i always choose day flights :s22:

if wait-listed on a redemption flight, would calling KF Cust Svc periodically to check on status help in securing a confirmation ?

or simply just wait & hope for best outcome ?

currently on the lowest KF membership tier

to update ... I called KF 3 days ago to enquire about my waitlist.

the CSO patiently explained that my desired date still only had 1 seat available.

Then, he checked & confirmed 2 seats on same flight a day before my desired date & said he would submit the waitlist request for review.

Yesterday, I got email confirming my waitlist is confirmed ! :s12:

even though I did not have enough miles, they were able to confirm a date and also put me on waitlist for another.

Haha, that is if they can sleep on their own seat themselves. Mine either need to be carried or need to half support them when they sleep. Now comes my problem with my SIN - SFO flight, since it departs like 9am, for like 12+ hours. It will be day time for them and not sleep that much, until they arrive at like 9am. Then I'd have dead sleeping kids upon arrival.

Ya, I know about that, so will prepare snacks / milk for them on take off and landing. Take off is abit slower as the crew needs to switch on the boiler for hot water for the milk, before I can make milk.

Sometimes they are not bad, but also have to do with that you are no.1 in the waitlist. They cannot do anything if you are last few in the waitlist.

Congrats on your waitlist clearing! But the notion of waitlisting for another flight while not having enough miles is new to me, maybe they had a change of policy. I can waitlist for multiple dates using the same block of miles, but never waitlist for another flight while holding a confirmed ticket without needing additional miles.

You referring to milk powder? I've had hot chocolate made with fresh milk instead of water as my PDB before, and it was delicious. They certainly have hot water onboard prior to takeoff.
