Most likely is Raid 1 HDD connected in wrong order or worse HDD issue. This will causes read access issue.

Yeah, I have also experience severe performance issue once and I was wondering what was the cause. Turns out that one of my mechanical drive was on its last legs. Luckily I managed to transfer most of the files out, though it took a very very long time due to the slow transfer rate, and constant failure to read. :o

I'll try later, but can explain what's the rationale? Even if got improvement but then I lost the connection of all my other drives?

Well done, you've just answered your own question. If there's improvement, then it means something has gone kaput with your HDD(s)

SSD + HDD = slow
SSD only = fast

Where else do you think the fault lies in?

How does a faulty HDD that is not the OS drive affect the SSD that is the OS drive?

Okay in any case, here's what I've did further:

Took out both GPU, boot with monitor connecting to the DVI port of the mobo

EVERYTHING WORKED. No lag no shits.

So this totally debunked that the SSD or any of the HDD is faulty.

So now I plug 1 GPU to the first PCI-E slot. Lag shits came back again. Sometimes it take over 30s to even boot to POST (the ASUS logo) or doesn't even reach there at all and need to reset. Even when it finally managed to boot to windows, it is definitely more than 1min and the same lag shits happened. Tried the other GPU, same results.

Now maybe you think both GPU spoil, but can't be that suey I think. So I plugged 1 GPU into the second PCI-E slot. WORKED. Snappy boot time snappy OS. Ran benchmarks, results as expected. Booted game, FPS back to normal. Repeated this with the other GPU, same good results.

So I reset CMOS and plug back to the first PCI-E slot again. No go. Most of the time can't even boot to POST. CPU LED checked, DRAM LED checked, when it comes to the VGA LED it just stuck there and stay dead. :s22:

I'm leaving 1 GPU on the second slot to boot and use PC right now but so I suppose the first PCI-E lane is goner?

Even I have to admit that's a first timer for me. But yeah, pcie slot faulty...or something wrong with the chipset controller. Kudos for finding out. The last time I handled a faulty pcie slot was because of physical damage. :s22:

Just to add, even though a hdd may not be the os drive, if it has regular I/O with the system and is faulty, the os may experience hitches. At least from my experience that is.

Checked CPU, no bend pin.

GPU now on PCI-E slot 1 (trying my luck), boots, interface isn't laggy but the graphical performance still sucks. Benchmarks running at 2/3 of what it should be and game is running at 15-25ish FPS. :(

So non works fine at lane 1?

None, none of the 2 GPU works as expected on lane 1. Either doesn't even boot past POST and stuck at the VGA check, or able to boot to windows but at a slow boot and the GPU performance suck balls.

But both GPU are perfectly fine one lane 2. Fast boot everything as you would expect them to perform at.

So clearly your mobo need RMA.

Do a check on the lane 1 slot and see if there is foreign object stuck in the connector? You may need a touch light to see clearly.

It just does :s12: The bandwidth or cache of the storage devices drivers might be somehow shared , when one of the storage device cocks up somehow ending up lagging the whole system trying to read it .

Thats why DIY is exhausting , alot of unknown issues can hit you out of the blue even if you r just changing a case :(.

Likely TS damaged the mobo during casings change. Try remove mobo and do setup outside casing and see if lane 1 works?

check your CPU temp. Got once i fix my H110 in then forget to power but the pump. So everything is very slow. Till i check with HWMonitor then notice that my CPU temp is at 80+ degree.
