I have had accounts with many banks in the last 2 or 3 years. Local banks, Malaysian banks, Chinese banks, ang moh banks.
SCB is the only one with no SMS.
Most also have physical token. Exceptions: ang moh banks and 1 Malaysian
oh cos just few weeks ago I received e-mail from DBS and one more bank (forgot which one), asking me to go online banking to confirm and update the e-mail address, cos they will move to app and e-mail for notifications... i guess it's a matter of time that sms notification will be gone...

yes, that's correct. More and more banks have informed they will be phasing out SMS notification to move towards email and in app notification. SCB is not the only one who have switched over completely. I guess the banks now realized that SMS can be "fake" ..... scammers may just send a fake SMS notification that you have transferred money from Bank A to Bank B (although in actual you did not make the transfer) and in the SMS ask you to click a fake link.

More likely than not, they are switching away from SMS due to cost reasons, and using security as a reason to move away from it. SMSes are slightly less secure than emails, however given the requirement of SenderID, it makes a scam SMS more obvious.

Emails are also prone to spoofing, very similar to SMSes.

I have a separate phone for banking apps. Only keep at home with wifi off till I need to use.

This phasing off of SMS for alerts and credit card online authorisation is inconvenient for me and the alert will not reach me timely.

If my account get hacked or have fraudulent transactions, won't know till I reach home and provided I on the wifi on my bank phone.

Likewise, when overseas, we need to have wifi and data to be able to receive the alerts by mobile app or email timely. Incoming SMS no need data.

It is really moving backwards.

The devices that I do most of my banking on do not have Singpass.
Except for one bank where I usually I keep only about $100 , and one other , all my banking apps are at home, like his. My Singpass is on my main phone

Removing sms notification by banks is a directive by the govt to reduce fraud u can keep on complaining, but at some point in time, u have to adapt and adopt to the new norm. it can inconvenience u but it also makes it harder for scammers to fraud u.

would you know why would email be less prone to fraud? Push notification is likely to be safer.

SCB email notification/alert is slower than SMS notification especially for credit card transaction.
credit card transaction done now, email notification will only be seen at the end of the day or tomorrow
wat happen if scammer use your credit card and you are not able to intervene in time or notify the bank, will we still liable for the fraud amount ?

Email is slower to notify/ receiving notifications - can be delayed a few hours,
SMS is much faster , almost immediate
