I feel like 5GNR SA is way better than 5GNR NSA for StarHub.

Not say speedtest, I'm saying coverage and consistency.

If you do a bit of technical research and bypass all the marketing b*ll that telcos all over the world are pushing out, you’ll find out that the main benefit for 5G are for the telcos to serve more customers with acceptable speeds within the same fixed area like at crowded places like stadiums and concert halls which 4G struggles with.

However telcos would like you to helpfoot the 5G infrastructure costs so they drop useless candies like 1Gbps 5G speeds to your device, possible only when there’s only a very light 5G customer load at the moment.

That's understating it a bit.

The lower latency for 5G SA (not NSA - haha double negative) enables some commercial applications too. End users on mobile phones may not benefit much from it, but planned future upgrades like the in-car satellite+mobile ERP systems will benefit greatly, along with other applications that untethered connectivity may be useful in - like in the biomedical sector.

Then again, those are commercial applications. User applications won't change too much, except in supporting greater device density. That already is a win imo. Especially with people who have 2/3/4 phones, LTE smartwatches and tablets, laptops... One person could be using 4-6 connections on their own. Multiplying that by the number of persons in an area means that LTE cannot cope with that.

I agree with you though - the speeds aren't as important now. They might be in future when content consumption goes up to crazy levels, but for now we are okay with good LTE-A connectivity.

Yup, it’s 90% commercial benefits when going to 5G over 4G. For the rest of us consumer side subscribers, basically just cash cows that are helping telcos fund their new 5G hardware.

It's why I'm staying with 4G as long as I can. Perhaps when 5G eventually drops to decent amounts.

With cost of living going up so much and the impending recession that the world can't seem to avoid, I'm frightened by having to overpay for things I don't need. Committing to a long term expensive contract may be suicidal.

My 2 years CIS plan is eligible to recontract, the newer 2 year plans doesnt include caller ID and now it cost additional $5+ more per month o_O

Does it make sense to wait for the contract to laspe and then continue to pay the old rate?

I have a strange issue after upgrading my mobile plan to the Starhub 5G Mobile+ plan. I believe it is due to the connection to 5G. I noticed that sometimes the VoLTE symbol will disappear and when that happens I am not able to receive any SMS.

It happened to me after I switch to the plan. However, I was still on the 4G sim card. But after I received the 5G sim card, the problem persists, and I cannot receive any OTP from banks, etc.

I have to switch to 4G or restart my phone (the VoLTE will appear after restarting my phone), and messages will then arrive.

I swapped my sim card to the second slot last night and it seemed to be working fine, until after lunch. My phone was connected to 5G service but no VoLTE connected. Again I was not able to receive SMS. I had to restart my phone and it connected to 5G with VoLTE.

I wonder if anyone faced the same issue? Or does anyone know the cause and how to resolve this?

Hi. I noticed that all new CIS plans do not have any more free CID and need to pay for $5.xx. One of my current CIS plans is ending in two month's time.

Just don't recontract and stay on your plan. It doesn't expire after 2 years, price is locked in

Mine was one year contract and can I still continue another one more year with same price?

Just "upgraded". It's crap. Sometimes no SMS for OTP and random network drops which you can't tell as the icon would still be on but nothing is loading. Need to keep toggling airplane mode to get network back up. I wonder if I can file for lemon.
