As if SG's 5G is any better. lol

well, 5G was one of the "must have" criteria ;)

at least better than a certain MNO, where "5G is actually 4G speed with a 5G icon" :ROFLMAO:

Hi,

i am currently on MyRepublic 5g plan and looking to switch to Giga because while i like the myrepublic (starhub 5g) coverage, sometimes i get weird errors like iMessage and facetime is disabled for this number (i use a physical sim) as though the sim card number is no longer my number. This error tends to go away after 1 day though.

i dont really travel to SEA / taiwan so the added roaming is not really a big factor. Just want to enjoy the same 5g coverage with less weird errors.

can anyone share if
1.you face a similar problem on giga with iphone?
2. any difference in 5g user experience in crowded areas by past MR 5G users? I understand they are both starhub 5g SA but does APN configuration play any part in network prioritisation? Myrepublic APN is which is the same as starhub but i understand giga has its own APN.
3. i do travel to China for work regularly and this would be my main line. Anyone experience any issues with receiving sms and calls in countries without the free roaming data?

thanks!

Ya know what you mean. My Simba 5G speed 20mbps vs eight 4G 120mbps same location lol

i finally figured out why my simba speeds are even worse......

there was a comment that the simba service centre at Kaki Bukit is ulu,
we also know that simba speed is good in central/downtown areas.
turns out i live about 1-1.5Km from Kaki Bukit (in the more ulu direction), which explains the poor speed and coverage 🤦‍♂️

Funny enough, eight at my place, can negotiate aggregated bands (LTE-A or LTE+) and can hit 280-290Mbps on my old 2017 phone.

for me, the only remaining potential advantage of simba is the roaming coverage. In Dec & Jan, I will test it out and see if performance lives up to the claim (sure, it's dependant on overseas partners, but if they choose partners with poorer coverage/performance, then it's on Simba).

More fun, at the same time, I'll be trying out MR's "Talk" app. So far, based on desktop research, it already appears better than Simba Voice app (Simba has deprecated support for their Voice app, its a matter of time before backend support will cease). if it works out, i may switch from Simba to MR (bearing in mind, i'll have to subscribe to the m1-based 4G plan to use the Talk app, and in my recent experience, m1 network is just as bad as Simba......)

My apologies to the SH Giga users for going off-topic.

I've posted about a similar situation in sg, not as extreme, but not far off. @gaoqikai has posted about the aus situation too.

here's a link to a video summary:

solution from the video: when you land, buy a new phone from from the telco you intend to roam with or buy a local SIM and that's not guaranteed to work. Used phones probably won't work.

I have read reddit posts that in usa, AT&T blocked phones based on models, but would white list the particular phone's IMEI on appeal. no such mechanism here - consumers here are price takers.

I won't be surprised if telcos here follow suit and limit support to only models they sell.
Already, some phones (models, or even brands) that work on one telco here, won't work on another telco. You have to do more research before porting out. Heck, you need to do a lot more research and future prediction before buying a phone (will it be supported 1-2 years down the road?) . Or just buy a flagship Samsung or Apple......

the video also mentions withdrawing support in future. it's already happened here. At least one telco (MNO) has shrunk their supported list from last year.
There is no appeal mechanism. But they have a shiny new phone they want to sell to you!!!!!
It is a "business friendly" environment here, after all.

Ending on a slightly positive note. Most of my calls in the last few years, are via VOIP apps, so I'm fine as long as there is a data connection. Normal incoming phone calls are mostly scammers, so lack of VoLTE calling capability is no big deal, in fact, the absence of scam calls is actually quite refreshing.
of course, if i still want to receive "normal" voice calls, i could switch to Simba and use their voice app, but I'll have to put up with their, uh, fantastic network coverage and speed.

Your use of term "business friendly environment" is epic, it is just reverse of environment friendly business even the meaning is the opposite. 👍

Do update MR Talk App usage, could it be non-VoLTE 4G devices saving grace like Simba Voice App which may retire anytime soon? ☺

Anyone encounter issue of intermittent data connection lost?

I'm on Giga's 4G with Samsung S23 Ultra and throughout the day the 4G icon will disappear and then reappear about 10 seconds later. This started about a few weeks ago I think.

Been happening to me since Sept on NSL at some stations where my 5G literally just drop and reconnect probably due to the tower being far apart and they can't handle the transfer properly.

If you meant while standing still and it drops then reconnect, nope.

Ah I see. Mine would drop and then reconnect even when I'm not moving.

Reception on train is getting worse for me too in recent months. My videos would stop loading momentarily (4G icon is still there) when the train is passing through Outram Park.

Not able to receive call and make a call since yesterday.
Saw Giga FB, seem like it start 2 days back.

Does anyone face this issue.
Giga didn't response on Live chat and FB on this.

Data is okay.
I noticed that recently too, 3 out of 5 family members cannot use the voice call. Their hp's support volte but dunno why will not work. I tried on other Telco and it works even for older hp's.....Guess no choice have to port out the 3xgiga lines to other Telcos. Now their app mentioned abt this.....lol not going to get new phones for this.....bye bye giga

Using S24U with Giga 4G and is one of those that suddenly cannot call out nor receive incoming calls.

Any solutions to solve? It's very irritating.
I cannot find any volte options with S24U menu.

May I enquire which other telco did the 3x lines port out to?
Am using Huawei P30 Pro and also faced this issue, because giga somehow didn't support it even when it was working previously www.giga.com.sg/FAQs_Details.aspx?QuestionId=4938

I tested ported out 1 line to eight mobile and am looking at other lines in case volte calls aren't supported on my device through eight mobile.

Do you have a spare phone to check?

From what i read, if no VOLTE option in S24 (Option -> Connections -> Mobile Network), something might be wrong with your SIM card. You can try the other slot or restart phone first.

If you can bring your sim to another phone and it works, talk with GIGA through the facebook chat. The ZENMO chat or w/e thing it is called as well as the email support is useless

If no spare phone or you bring SIM over to other phone also can't call out, also just contact GIGA through FB Chat.

If cannot endure already, i reccomend just porting out cause GIGA is really slow at resolving things.

I just want to update that I'm able to get 5G signal for my Poco X5 Pro 5G. I was worried that 5G may not work as Giga website does not include my phone/model as compatible.

I just switched over from Gomo. Sharing this info to whoever may find it useful.

In case you are wondering - speedtest shows around 300mbps speed on less than 20ms ping

No issue on my S24U with my freshly ported back Giga 4G today.

Check your Connection settings

Try disabling WiFi calling, toggle your Giga SIM off and back on, and also run update all SIM cards on setting page.

My Mom's Redmi 9T suddenly cannot make / receive any calls at all - no issue with data or data calls..

Tried all troubleshooting (APN swap - restart phone etc etc ) and NONE works - anybody having the same issues?

Very frustrating with their non-existant customer service...
