Hi all,

I assisted my dad with his 150Mbps fibre sign up.. He is currently on Starhub cable, so with his contract up, he decided to upgrade to a fibre plan.

I understood from the shop that he will be given a DVG-5402SP RG (with free rental) for his connection. But even though he already have Digital Voice (when on cable), the Digital Voice line will not be ported over to the fibre line. This means my dad still have to keep his cable modem on for Home Voice (which is a waste of electricity).

I asked the counter why this is the case. He said this is because the current house number was originally from Singtel and ported over to Starhub, so because Starhub does not own the number, is unable to port is over to the fibre. He said this is due to the IDA rules. I am not so sure on this, so here I am asking for some clarification, as I hope some of you might experience this.

According to the counter, once the fibre line is up and running, I should try to give Customer Service a call, and request for the port of the home number. He said they may or may not be able to do it. I think he is just trying to avoid explaining to us on this issue, so we just didn't continue asking about this.

But I would like to know on how this can be done, and if there are any things to take note?

BS from them again. Can be done one. My original Singtel number was ported to fibre and now to cable.

Starhub will come to my house to install the 150 Mbps fibre optic.
The ONT will be at living room. What devices should I buy to make my current setup works as per normal.
My current setup:
One desktop in master bedroom
One desktop in second bedroom.
Both connected (wired) to a tp link router that connected to the cable modem in the master room. but now the ont will be in living room.

Please help to suggest devices I should buy, such as wireless adapters or home plug or others many thanks.

hmm... Will you be getting the RG?

if so

ONT→RG→Home plug1→Home plug2→TPLINK

do note that the home plug is a hit & miss affair

Please recommend a home plug brand and model to get?
Many thanks.

If you want good speed and consistency .... just run a network cable point. The home plugs ... IMHO is really "hit or miss".

From the feedback so far .... more of the "miss".

This can be done as long as the Line is not terminated for cable and they can port over to fibre. They only have issue with some of their own (Starhub Owned) DV number which cannot be ported to fibre DVH due to platform issue during my time of change. ported number? no problem :s22:

Thanks guys.. I will take note of this after the fibre line has been set up..

one more ques, is it true that my dad will still have to pay for the re-activation of the DV number on the fibre? Or can this charge be waived off?

I couldn't port over when I signed up as well so I'm running the voice through my cable modem. And you all please check your bill for the DGV on fibre. They charged like $9.80 instead of the $2.10 as communicated.

My experience is the homeplug pair will disconnect frequently when the router is dlink. After replacing router with Asus, the homeplug is stable.

ONT→RG→Home plug1→Home plug2→TPLINK

My 150mbps just installed yesterday.
But I can't really get any speed over 100mbps in speed test
Wired roughly from 60-90mbps download, 30-45mbps upload.
Wireless (iphone and ipad) roughly 30-36mbps

My temporary setup:

ont --> DLink router (starhub default) -->direct cable (cat 5) -->
bedroom's Tp-Link routers --> desktop1 and desktop2.

No trunking yet, cable run on the floor.

Please help for suggestions to improve the speed,
and also recommendations for trunking services.
Many thanks

when i use direct connect to server, my connection is this fast
2428694722.png

This one is connected wirelessly when i'm very near to the router.

Finally, this last result is via wireless from my room which is not far from living room.

May i know why are the results so drastic? I am using maxinfinity 100mbps with the dlink router provided. What do i need to boost it to maximum capability?
