Hi guys,

I just signed up for the HomeHub Ultimate few weeks back. I find the D-Link router range very weak as compared to my TP-Link router(TL WR841N). I tried connecting the ONT to the TP-link router and then to my laptop but it shows no internet connection. Why is this so? Am i even able to do this in the first place as this is fiber optics so i'm unsure if the tp-link router is compatible.

Anybody faced this issue before? Sorry if this query was posted and answered before. I'm not an IT guy by the way, so all these subnets and digits and what not can be confusing to me but any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hope you guys can help me out.

1. no.

2. if you are not on any VoIP services, contact Starhub to perform a Direct ONT instead.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Why is it that the TP link cant be connected to the ONT? Direct ONT means connecting my laptop to the ONT, bypassing the router? But i still need the wireless.

For those intending to go direct ONT route :

1) Need VOIP : Just request to transfer digital voice to any voice capable cable modem. If you do not have, try getting those 2nd hand Motorola surfboard modem in marketplace costing around $15-$20.

2) No need VOIP : What are you still waiting for ?

I suggest all to go direct ONT route since they already allow it and depending on the CSO the process takes around 2-3 days (mine was 2 days) to complete with around half a day downtime. For transfer of digital voice to cable modem, it needs 1-2 days to complete the process.

some people wants to save that "ounce" of power so they rather stick to the RG.

Starhub called me just now and told me that tomorrow there'll be a "downtime" for my fibre due to the change to "Direct ONT" up to a maximum of 24hrs!!

Need so long meh? How long was your broadband offline?

Wah!! They really mean full 24hrs??!! Wah piang ... why don't they just do direct ONT for all straight away. I have asked the lady, she told me that the ONLY reason why we would every need "Indirect ONT" with the RouterGateway is because our digital voice is on the RouterGateway.

So I guess I have to stick the VeCM liao. LOL!!

2hrs sound more bearable.

decent? erm...

what is better than decent on a 100Mbps plan then? :s22:

I mean to say I don't need full max speed for BT la. Cos with 12mbps I think I should be able to finish my downloads within just a few hr

Hi all,

I assisted my dad with his 150Mbps fibre sign up.. He is currently on Starhub cable, so with his contract up, he decided to upgrade to a fibre plan.

I understood from the shop that he will be given a DVG-5402SP RG (with free rental) for his connection. But even though he already have Digital Voice (when on cable), the Digital Voice line will not be ported over to the fibre line. This means my dad still have to keep his cable modem on for Home Voice (which is a waste of electricity).

I asked the counter why this is the case. He said this is because the current house number was originally from Singtel and ported over to Starhub, so because Starhub does not own the number, is unable to port is over to the fibre. He said this is due to the IDA rules. I am not so sure on this, so here I am asking for some clarification, as I hope some of you might experience this.

According to the counter, once the fibre line is up and running, I should try to give Customer Service a call, and request for the port of the home number. He said they may or may not be able to do it. I think he is just trying to avoid explaining to us on this issue, so we just didn't continue asking about this.

But I would like to know on how this can be done, and if there are any things to take note?

Starhub will come to my house to install the 150 Mbps fibre optic.
The ONT will be at living room. What devices should I buy to make my current setup works as per normal.
My current setup:
One desktop in master bedroom
One desktop in second bedroom.
Both connected (wired) to a tp link router that connected to the cable modem in the master room. but now the ont will be in living room.

Please help to suggest devices I should buy, such as wireless adapters or home plug or others many thanks.
