Hi All,

I have just signed up for the the starhub 100mbps plan today and I have done some research by reading this thread and would like to check on some missing links that i have or to reconfirm my knowledge.

Just abit of background on my step up:
- I do not need digital voice
- My optic fibre point is right behind my maindoor (90squaremeter hdb apartment) since running the rubbish cable through my living room will spoil the deco of my flat.
- I am not expecting very high speed. So long as can get around 30-40mbps (that would means 2x as fast as my current BB), i am pretty happy

Questions:

1) Direct ONT is possible since i do not need DV. Do we need to inform starhub to activate some settings? Or its a mere plug and play without additional configuration?

2) Instead of getting a better router (i believe the Asus N66 is the hot fav here) will homeplug be better?

3) Will my built in wireless card be ready to tap the Asus N66 if i am willing to burn $200 odd cash? Does my mobo comes with dual band that can tap the 5ghz band? Is it draft N or N?

My mobo is as below.

1. contact Starhub
2. router better
3. learn to check by yourself.

hmm i was having issues with connecting to youtube/dramacrazy/epdrama and others before i bridged my old linksys router to the DVG-N5402SP. now, the problem is back again. i used the method of turning off wlan on the DVG-N5402SP and enabling dmz using my 2nd router's ip. is there anything else i need to do? or another method?

ONT connected to WAN on DVG-N5402SP and lan port to WAN port on 2nd router, then lan port on 2nd router to PC.

Im using SH 100mbps fiber but the overseas speed is really slow. Only 5mbps on speedtest.

I would suggest going with Viewquest

I agree with Starhub Fibre being slow and it is shared among the number of users within the same building or area, you will notice the speed is extremely slow during peak hours till very bad.

your options are limited.

1. call Starhub
2. do Direct ONT

Only SH's own D-link router can "talk" to the ONT. Have tried connecting a TPLINK router direct to the ONT and it doesn't work.

SH's fibre cannot direct ONT on your own. Must inform SH to do the configurations. And to use digital voice, will need to use the old VE-cable modem.

SH user... how is the experience on SH fiber? Is it good?
My contract with SH cable is gonna up soon. Gonna switch to fiber, wanted to jump to MR but might not jump over due to my SH VOIP number which my mum is always using.

SH fiber not as good as cable, and sucks.

My friend told me, if cable or phone line can go SH, but if fibre, SH is not the right choice... how true it is ...

My cable experiences with SH is pretty good.
Therefore, i'm thinking of keeping SH this time round.

MR has been very aggressive in marketing. They have caught my attention, but i'm being held back by the VOIP. If i jump to MR, my parents will need to inform all her friends etc abt the new number and worst of all the cap of VOIP for MR unlike SH.

If not just use SH for VOIP and MR for fiber. LOL
Currently Viewquest is the leader?

Please give more details when praising or in your case, condemning SH fibre. That will be more productive for people who are eyeing SH fibre currently.

Just to check those on MaxInfinity, anyone change the default Huawei Router to the Asus N66U?

Any settings I need to configure to get it work? I tried the automatic settings but I am not able to connect to the internet.

Anyone to help?
