hi guys. i'm having problem with my newly subscribed starhub optic fibre plan.

i am always getting laggy or disconnection with my iphone games ie. street fighter 4 voltz.

i was not having such problem as often previously with my singtel mio internet.

i would like to know whether there is any optimization that i can do to improve my connection. or is this a starhub backend problem?

1. change router
2. change handphone.
3. go back to singtel

you are free to choose either :)

called starhub earlier, asking for a solution.

hopefully they will allow me to terminate and i'll switch over to myrepublic.

Update: they called to ask me to test the wired connection speed using their website. will report to them the outcome tomorrow.

doubt they will allow.

clearly imo is your phone's problem. Apple is known to be incompatible with alot of networking devices.

my is billing problem from Starhub, I was en-block by HDB to move my apartment to new block near bukit merah, and Starhub, give me about 2 weeks no connection with MaxOnLine Express, when I already inform them that when I am moving, but could not get connected for 2 weeks until an network engineer found out that my line was not activated. then the problem come with the billing which I never check, it was billed as subscription with no contract for the new address from $39.90 to $53.20. for nearly 13 months, I only found out when I go to upgrade my TV box to HD type, that the counter girl ask me whether want to re-contract. as I was a bit confuse and agree to re contract, then I go home to check my contract form and found that I was actually re-contract in September 2011, so mean contract should end of September 2013. then I found out they charge me $53.20 from November 2011, as I move in October 2011. so I write to their web email to complain and request them to refund. they never reply and after a few days like 3 days to 1 week , I write again for 4 times but they never bother to reply. Now is more than 1 month Liao; I have been Starhub client since the first time they come to run the TV cable in 2001, so for 12 years using MOL Express till now, since they not bother with me and unfortunately I have re-contract on Jan 2013 because the counter girl tell me that I don't have contract. Now my new block has fiber cable installed, and I wait for another 2 years, that is long time, I will terminate then maybe go for other ISP for fiber cable.

Down since 28 Jan 13

I am tearing my hair out for this one....

I am originally subscribed to the Maxinfinity Ultimate 100mbps. Due to the poor performance and serious limitations of the Huawei RG that was provided by Starhub during initial signup, like many bros here, I had requested that they provision for me to use my own router (Apple Extreme) instead. Everything was fine and dandy for a couple of months.

Then it was time to recontract. I was advised by a CSO at the Clementi Mall Starhub outlet that there is a promo for Maxinfinity Elite 150mbps, making it the same price as that of 100mbps. Before signing up to recontract, I highlighted that my connection is provisioned for direct ONT to own router connection. He said no problem. That was on 19 Jan 13.

On 28 Jan 13 morning, I woke up to no connection. My own Apple Extreme router indicated there is no internet connection. Rebooting both the router and the ONT did nothing to estab connection.

First called Starhub 1633 on 28 Jan 13 evening. After listening to my problem, the staff said he will check and get someone to call back.

Noone called back. I had to call 1633 again. Spoke to a staff who seemed to know what she is talking about. Suspecting that provisioning was done improperly, she got me up with maxonline bb for the time being while the issue is being resolved.

Only the problem was not resolved. Following that, numerous calls were made to 1633, with no one the wiser on the issue and could not provide a resolution. That, plus the fact that I have to repeat my whole story to whoever picked up my calls, is really testing my patience. They do not give me the feeling that they understand technical issues or are able to do anything to help. Got this feeling that these guys are put to answer calls and let irate customers blow off steam at them!

Finally they arranged for someone to come down to take a look, only that the staff that came was not briefed at all on my issue and was told to come down and replace the RG! In the end he replaced the ONT, which did nothing to resolve the lost connectivity.

And it is one week since I do not have connection. Should I have known that this would be so problematic, I would not have recontracted, but went to another ISP. Extremely disappointed given that I am also a starhub shareholder.

You can try it. It should work. ONT has to be directly connected to the RG. However, this is not recommended, as the homeplug might decrease the overall bandwidth your entire wifi network is receiving.

1. no it doesn't work
2. want to make it work can, but you have to get direct ONT instead.

I've upgraded VID from 1071 ->1075. Is there anything else I need to do?

Probably they removed your direct ONT access? check with starhub on whether your direct ONT is still on after the upgrade.

Hi All, would like to know what is the wireless file transfer speed within home? Whenever I transferring files from my NAS to my Laptop or vice versa my transfer speed is always between 2-4mbps. is this normal? The internet speed is good and hit to 150mbps, but the wireless transfer speed within home is 2-4mbps.

I had been using Starhub service for 2years plus, just that recently I started to revamp my whole setting and had a serious thought about the file transfer speed.

My NAS (DNS-320) is connected to Huawei RG LAN1 and with static IP, and I set my Wireles to 802.11n.

Please advise. Thanks.

Techy HWZ members, need guidance.

I just bought a D-Link DIR636L Wifi Gigabit router from Challenger as the sales staff there says it's compatible with the Starhub Fiber Optic modem.

However, it wouldn't work when I connect the modem to it. The internet light just stays orange instead of turning green.

As soon as I connect the crappy Huawei, however, my WiFi's back as normal.

Note: When I try connecting the LAN cable straight from the modem (port 1) to my laptop, I couldn't get a connection either, but when it routes through the HuaWei, the cable connection is OK.

My questions, I guess are:

1) Is the DLink DIR636L compatible to SH's modem?
2) Why couldn't I get a signal/connection when I hook up the modem's output LAN port to my laptop?
3) How can I make the new router work (assuming #1 is true)

Thanks!

Additional comment.

When I try to connect the Huawei's output port to the input of the DLink, the DLink router works just fine, but that's like buying a $160 range extender (and it's not really extending the signal that far from the HuaWei, it seems), I'd rather return it and get a cheaper extender.

Thanks in advance.

That is because your ONT (modem) is configured to only recognise the huawei router. I would like to check with you if you are using digital voice. If you are, you can bridge your new router to the old one. If you are not, you can contact starhub to request for direct ONT, so that you can use your own router directly.

Thanks for replying IncTEh.

A1: Yes, I'm using digital voice quite often
A2: For Bridging (no idea what this is, but I've read a couple of posts here on HWZ), can I use ANY router (like a cheaper non-Gigabit model) to do so?

I'm planning to return this router tomorrow and maybe switch it to a dual-antenna, $60 router instead.

Thanks!

I doubt they will accept returns. But if you are using digital voice, you will still need the router, as mass market router will not be able to support it. My advise to you is to get a router you want, preferably a 3T3R dual band one. What bridging does is allow your own router to see the internet, bypassing the huawei router. To do so, you have to connect LAN port of huawei to WAN port of your router, and configure your huawei to stop wifi, and enable its DMZ to your router.
