I doubt they will accept returns. But if you are using digital voice, you will still need the router, as mass market router will not be able to support it. My advise to you is to get a router you want, preferably a 3T3R dual band one. What bridging does is allow your own router to see the internet, bypassing the huawei router. To do so, you have to connect LAN port of huawei to WAN port of your router, and configure your huawei to stop wifi, and enable its DMZ to your router.

my 2cents

get a motorola cable voip modem for $20-30 at BnS (Marketplace) of HWZ

get a router and request for direct ont.

by the way, 1 cent $ 1 cent goods. You pay $60, you are most probably be getting another ... product.

Much thanks for taking the time to reply.

I'll check out 3T3R DB routers then for exchange. I'll be pretty adamant about them replacing it as it was their advice that said it can replace the HuaWei haha.. I'll let you know what happened.

In any case, can I simply use a long CAT5 cable to the new, bridged router and place it inside my bedroom so that I get extended/overlapping range or does the bridge router have to be really close to the HuaWei's?

Much appreciated support.

I believe it can be done, shouldn't affect the bandwidth much, but instead of using a CAT 5, get a CAT5e or CAT6.

Try your luck with the exchange ba, doubt they will do it. I'm using tp-link wdr4300. Works well and getting 100mbps on 2.4ghz band. If you got excess cash, get Asus rt-n65u

IncTeh: Here's the update:

I went back to Challenger and told them the incorrect suggestion of the salesman and they instantly gave me back the in-store credit refund, so I had $160 to spend again.

The guy in the customer service told me to look for a particular salesman because of his 'expertise' in networking to find the right one.

I talked to the new rep and he suggested the Asus RT-AC66 but warned me that it'd still depend on which Starhub subscription I'm on because of *unfortunately, he lost me when he started talking networking jargon hehe*...

Anyway, I said I was on the 50Mbps basic fiber plan and not sure about the other specs he was asking.

He asked me again what my main issue was (speed, range, compatibility, etc.) and I said I just want to have more signal in the farthest bedroom and speed wasn't a priority because we don't do heavy surfing/DL/etc. in the bedroom.

He then suggested that I just pick up a WiFi extender, specifically the Cisco/Linksys RE1000 because that's the model that doesn't drop the speed by half compared to the other models.

So that's what I did.

It worked pretty well, to be honest. In the bedroom, I normally get 1 to zero bars on my Galaxy Note with the door closed.

Right now, with the extender, I'm on full-bars. Speedtest.net is still showing around 35-40mbps DL speed in the bedroom.

My results are pretty much the same as this guy:

Not sure what negatives I may be experiencing now, but I'm too ignorant to know LOL.

Still, I can't thank you enough for the help. Much rep!

Hi all, would like to know what is the Huawei HG256 wifi transfer speed? Whenever I perform file transfer from my NAS to my laptop or vice versa, the transfer speed is 2mb/s - 4mb/s. Is this normal? Even I Lan up my laptop the transfer speed still 2mb/s to 5mb/s even though the connection show 1gb. I have no issue with Internet, but is the file transferring I find it slow.

guys, need some help here, as i am having problem with my starhub dlink dvg n5402sp modem.

the technician came down to test and he had 60mb/s wifi connection and claimed that all my wireless devices is not compatible with their wifi/modem and suggested me to get a dual band wifi/router. all my wireless devices are not getting anything more than 30 mb/s, and sometimes the upload speed is faster than the download speed.

now i have an extra singtel wifi/modem lying around, i'm wondering if it is possible to use the singtel wifi/modem as a wifi router and connect it with my starhub DVG-N5402SP.

in fact, i have 2 singtel wifi/modem, 1 is the old 2wire and the other 1 is the new Pace wifi/modem.

i tried connecting it and it didn't work. is there any settings i need to do on the starhub dlink settings? and on the PACE unit end?

the internet LED on the singtel unit is in red color.

both 2wire and PACE are single band routers, I don't see any difference if you were to change them.

The reason why it won't work is that your ONT is configured to recognise the dlink router only. If you choose to use your own router, you have to call starhub and request for direct ONT.

The reason why the technician is getting 70mbps is because the router was on 40MHz bandwidth at point of test, when the router detects more boardcasts on 2.4GHz band, it will auto revert to 20MHz, which results to the 30mbps you are receiving.

the thing is, i don't how to configure it.

but before i continue, just want to make sure that it is understand correctly that my dlink is from STARHUB and both my PACE and 2wire are from SINGTEL.

the older 2wire wifi/modem was working fine with all our household wireless devices. as for PACE, it was issued recently from the TV subscription, but the technician hooked the old 2wire modem to the setup box instead. hence the PACE unit is free now.

probably can if you configure it correctly.

anyway, the technician bull you as well simi need dual band, if he were to bull me i will screw him :s22:

ok, now i know my next step is to get starhub to untag my modem, right, so i can get direct ONT.

and from there, how to do the configuration for both modem and wifi/router?

i want to give it a try, before i go and purchase a asus wifi router.

i roughly guess that i need to:-

On DLINK modem's side

1) disable the wireless function on the dlink modem

2) change WAN connection to "Internet"

2) enable DMZ mode. (what should i enter for the DMZ Host IP Address?)

On PACE/2wire wifi/modem's side

1) Switch to Ethernet mode

Anywhere I can read more on this or someone can give me a lead on this?

Thanks in advance!
