are you using the default router given by SH?

yes. the black ont + dir-865l (the latest given configuration)

i'm thinking of swapping it out for a better one, but the hassle of doing so is putting me off... it's managing my expectations pretty well aside from some very minor issues.

i should add that my results are from direct LAN connection.

Black ONT -> dir-865l -> buffalo wireless n300 router -> PC (cos my LAN cable is not long enough; new cat7 one coming soon...)

The Singapore Broadband Speed Test - Speedtest publicly states their speedtest is inaccurate for speed above 100mbps, they throttle..

Note: This speed test caters for Internet connection speeds up to 100Mbps. If your connection is greater than 100Mbps, you may not get accurate results.

same as Speedtest.net by Ookla - The Global Broadband Speed Test... i notice most of it cap speed at about 100-150mbps as well

150 mbps for direct wired is a bit slow. Maybe try changing the cable and check if your network card specs to see its the bottleneck.

For wireless, the speed is dependent on the distance and the interference around. Try download a app on your mobile (search wifi scan) to scan the wifi traffic in your neighborhood, and then avoid those channels with lots of users.

When i used the starhub speed test for fibre, it shows I'm fully optimizing the speed of 200mpbs. Speedtest gave different results, which raises my suspicisons...:s11:

The network card for PC shows im connected using "JMicron PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Adapter", so is it because of this? Pardon me I'm not very good in knowledge with regards to these...

For wireless, I downloaded inSSIDer 3 and set the wireless channel based on it. Anyways, the router is placed in my living room, about 3m max away from me. Based on Starhub's speedtest, i'm only getting about 45mpbs on wireless on the 2.4 ghz band on both my samsung note 2 and laptop. Should I get the Starhub technican to check?

try this? supposedly hosted in Amazon datacentre with local peering, I can max out 300mbps no problem... after a while speedtest doesn't really matter, so long you have good download speed to do your stuff, should be fine. Just bear in mind that most website doesn't even have 100mbps connection yet, and they serve so many people... your speed increase doesn't mean every company also increase their own bandwidth, so some will still continue to sucks

https://app.netrounds.com/speedtest/bbq/

wifi is never a good gauge to try speedtest, my house alone i can detect (nowadays) >60 AP, so you can imagine the amount of interference... luckily I use Lan cable on all the comps, wifi is strictly for mobile device like phones, ipads

I haven't tried m1 so not really sure. Is it that bad? will DC after 2am? :s22:

So far everything seems good except for the overloading of torrent connection.

as for links, did you try using another browser to test if it's browser fault?

They like to do maintenance at around 2 am.

Now I use Chrome most of the time. I suspect should be the IE at fault but why only happen after I change SH?

There is no "all-in-one": the fibre connection is terminated by the ONT and every fibre subscriber needs to connect a router or gateway to the ONT. The ONT does not need to be changed if you switch ISPs and will continue to work.

And the D-Link DVG home gateway they used to provide, which integrated Internet access and VOIP into one router, had such ludicrously bad wireless performance that sufficient customers complained to get Starhub to change the router offering to the current 865L, at the expense of having to get an additional modem for digital voice.

It's not really a case of trolling when you already have a voice-enabled cable modem to access VOIP services with. It's very much intended to save you the headaches of really abysmal wireless performance, unless you have a better wireless router/AP to connect/bridge to the D-Link integrated gateway or something.

In which case, you should contact Starhub and convey to them your (rare) wish of swapping the 865L for the DVG home gateway. Not sure if you can just purchase it from them or something. And the home gateway needs to be registered on their side or something for it to work.

I think the point here is that Starhub has already made a big move in heeding customers' complaints and phasing out the infamous DVG home gateway. We aren't fanboys or representatives from Starhub, but I think we have to be objective here. Gribber and many of the more experienced Starhub subscribers here know because we were (repeatedly) conveyed explanations by official Starhub reps about how the setup works back when the DVG home gateway was still being distributed and we wanted to replace it with our own routers.

To classify the ONT has to be changed when changing ISP. Different ISP uses different ONT box. There are indeed all in one modem + ONT in the market.

i see... for your browser issue, the best is to contact starhub's technical help and try to find out why. if you mention that the exact same situation had no problems when you were on m1, they will probably try to find out what's wrong. all the best!

Depend, I jumped from M1 to SH, I used back the same white color ONT.

I requested the technician to exchange and use the black one but he called back opennet to check and was told not to swap for me. :(

Very likely they will ask me to reformat and feedback to them.

Since Chrome is still usable, I just KIV first, wait till I free than do a reformat and if that never resolve, I will give them a call.

you mean reformat your PC? reformatting PC has nearly no benefits unless there are corrupted registry files or system files or your whole HDD is infested with viruses/malware.

you can try re-installing IE then see if the problem still persists...

WARNING: For those of u who are using Android tv media box to stream content using PPTV app..PLEASE AVOID SH. All the latest movies and variety shows which are airing on SH Cable TV are BLOCKED!!! WTF!!! Now I cannot watch shows like RUNNING MAN and 非诚勿扰 on my tv.
I asked SH before i subscribed to their services and they informed me that they will not block contents from apps like PPTV!! PUI!!!
This is seriously a case of conflict of interest! IDA should not have let a Cable TV provider to become an ISP..
Really felt cheated..sian!! When i plugged back my ViewQwest fiber, all the latest contents are back in my media box..and i did not even subscribed to VQ freedom vpn service. And I would not have noticed the difference if I had not subscribed to VQ fibernet in the first place.
Is there anyway i could lodge a complaint against SH?

Ping Test comparison. SH on wired. VQ on wireless. Sian.
Dare not post the results for SH wireless. Funny the speedtest is higher for SH as compared to VQ though.(both wireless)

can try write in to them. the way to make sure they will reply to you is by holding off paying the bills. state that you were told that the videos would not be blocked but after subscribing, the salesman actually lied to you. false representation is a valid reason to be released from their contract.

Thanks..I called up the tech support..as usual he blame it on my media box.. told him to send technician dwn to my house to see the difference for themselves.. told me there will be charges for this..Damn disappointing.
And now they tell me that SH does not block content to any sites, but whether the content provider blocked their IP, they do not have any idea..Win already.

Then why they do not advise customer this way when asked???
Seriously, IDA should come out with clear guidelines for these ISPs to be honest with their customers so that consumers would not be misleaded into signing up with 2 year contract.

I will be bringing the media box to my sister house on M1 fiber to check if they were also blocked. If M1 did not block, then there is no resaon for SH to block the contents.

install pptv on your PC then run and see if there's any problems. supposedly both PC and media box app ver runs the same way, and both sides got problem, it means that there's something wrong with Starhub. you can smoke them by saying that PPTV does not block any ISP's address, esp from Singapore - which is actually true for almost all of the sites worldwide.

you must be firm and state that the salesman explicitly confirmed the fact that video streaming apps and their videos such as PPTV will definitely work before signing the contract. if it is indeed misrepresentation, you have the right to nullify the contract and not pay anything thing with regards to the contract.

do all your own tests as many possible ways as possible and stay alert - dont let them smoke you. SH loves to smoke ppl into thinking that their own equipment or method got problem one.

if really cmi, try to ask PPTV if they got block Singapore's IP. this one may take forever to get an answer tho.

btw, i'm not a lawyer, but i do have an interest in law... so far i've managed to get SH to absorb any minutes exceeding my allocated free outgoing if it's caused by their policy change from per second billing to per minute billing :s13::s13:
