How to Test if Your ISP is Throttling Your Internet Connection?

I just googled on the topic and found some interesting information.
How to Test if Your ISP is Throttling Your Internet Connection

Anyone using these tests to check if SH is throttling our internet speed?
Glasnost: Test if your ISP is shaping your traffic
M-Lab

I tried the glasnost test and click the flash video option, and the bar just pause for a very long time, and the bar indicated "processing data" forever, the process never complete.

See here: http://screencast.com/t/QkAgP3ZQPy

And can't test the NDT one. Dunno if it is really SH fibre connection issue that make the test failed.

ONT and AirPort Extreme - wifi does not have internet sometimes

Has anyone experienced the following? Need advice.

My setup since early 2013
ONT with AirPort Extreme 5th gen

I switch off setup every night.
Most days the wifi delivers internet access when it is switched on in the morning.

But some days there is no internet access - but all lights are green and as per normal on both the ONT and the AirPort Extreme.

On such days, I use the StarHub workaround - use a laptop (with wifi switched off) to connect directly to the ONT and Internet access is available. Then switched back cable to the AirPort Extreme and switch on wifi...this usually works.

But lately this does not work like today for example.
Lights remain green on both ONT and AirPort Extreme but NO internet access.

I have called SH a few times but the problem is when the tech comes on the appt day (a few days later), the setup is working again...and they cannot find anything wrong naturally.

Any thoughts about this "mystery" problem? Today it is such a problem day :s11:

Is your Airport Extreme firmware and laptop wifi drivers up to date?
Have you tried a wired connection to the Airport Extreme and also accessing the wifi using handphone when the problem is happening?

so what channel should I use for both 2.4hz and 5hz on my asus router for maximum wireless connection performance?

keep getting slow loading and intermittent connection issues whenever I try to stream videos in the night these days.. :(

Anything from 1 to 11 (skip 12 n 13 if you habe it)

Anything on US channel for 5GHz.

Best if u could download inssider and determine the best chn around your area.

Dynamic DNS is just basically a hostname that tracks your IP address. You do need to run something (or maybe your router might support that service), so that the Dynamic DNS service is updated with your IP address.

Thanks. Is there any way I can host a pptp VPN server with starhub's dynamic ip address?

Have you gotten starhub to configure it as Direct ONT?

Contract ends only in Sept. I spent 15mins explaining to the Starhub counter at Amara that i wanted to change my ONT to the new version that supports Digital Voice direct.

Conclusion given: NO. Unless you sign a new line.

Sigh .. i've been a Hubber for 8 years already. This is how Starhub treats its customers.

Hi guys, I have just changed my office and home broadband to Starhub fibre optic. Was Singtel and M1 respectively.
After changing office one to Singtel, often when I click a link to a new site. I will need to refresh the browser window because it either give me garbage safe mode type times new roman html page or it just shows ' Webpage not available'.
It is getting frustrating. I never had such issues before. Anyone know how to fix that?

Clear all cache and browsing history and try again.
Hi Bieffe, I did all that before posting this reply already. Tried all kinds of common solutions.

I also did Unchecking "Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors" and "Predict network actions to improve page load performance" as some others said.

The issue is not only on my computer but also across other PCs on the network. I tried to look into whether it was the new Dlink router's issue but all settings seem fine.

yes, and it is convenient if your router supports both DDNS and VPN hosting. once you set both up, you can just use your DDNS address to connect to your VPN service.

how do i activate the ddns to do that? I'm using the Asus RT-N56U, entered my details for the ddns and i still cannot connect to the vpn via the ddns address. Is there anything else i need to do?

Since you are a new SH subscriber, you should be on direct ONT.
It might be a hardware or cable problem. Start by isolating the router. Temporarily disconnect the router from the ONT, connect your computer directly to the ONT using a known good cable and see if your browsing is OK.
