So what's the point in having IDS/IPS? Who wants to buy a router and to disable IDS/IPS?

It depends on the usefulness of the type of IDS/IPS offered by the router, most of the consumers do not need IDS/IPS. It is better to disable IDS/IPS anyway if you use UDM Pro or UDM SE with 10Gbps plan.

BTW, I turn off Asus AIprotection Pro feature on my Asus RT-AX86U as well, it is useless to me. I turned it on for a few times and it detected nothing. I find Adguard Home or Pi-hole to be more useful.

FYI Asus AIprotection Pro also claims to support IDS/IPS but it is not really true IDS/IPS and bascially useless.

Discussion here: Asus ROG GT-AXE16000 -- you need to disable quite some FW features to get about 8.2Gbps.
https://www.snbforums.com/threads/a...ing-10gbps-am-i-missing-something-here.85316/

Eevn for Ubiquiti UDM Pro and UDM SE (small enterprise grade router), you need to disable IDS/IPS. If not the throughput is only at 3.5Gbps.
I hope their new Enterprise Gateway or UDM Enterprise with >10Gbps IDS/IPS doesn't cost a bomb. Going down to take a sneak peek tomorrow at UWC.

Quite disappointed their Pro Max can only do 5Gbps IDS/IPS but then again this is the same company that released Wireless AC device in 2024.

Sadly is the Nokia ONR, if in future the 5Gbps plan come with ONT will be great for using own router or SH bundle it with TP Link 810v.

Let's hope SH will upgrade all 1Gbps plan to 2.5Gbps in future so plans subscribed under the new 10Gbps backbone fibre infrastructure under the tagline of "Ultraspeed".

For example SH can maybe priced it like this without GST yet. 🤣
  • UltraSpeed 2.5Gbps ($35)
  • UltraSpeed 5Gbps ($55)
  • UltraSpeed 10Gbps ($75)

Ultraspeed 10G is now at S$69.95 per month with EB810v and contents bundle like 24 months of Premier League and 12 months of Disney+ Standard. The price may be lower in the future without the contents bundle. Competition from SIMBA and others may push the price for 5Gbps a bit down (say S$50) in the future.
  • UltraSpeed 2.5Gbps (S$35) -- with basic 2.5G capable WiFi 6 router
  • UltraSpeed 5Gbps (S$55) -- with 10G capable basic WiFi 7 router like EB810v
  • UltraSpeed 10Gbps ($70) -- with 10G capable basic WiFi 7 router [current price, may go down if contents bundle will be less]

I also because you are using Nokia ONR just like me? Mid June NLT will start to upgrade the NBN infrastructure so some of us may be the lucky one to get the new upgraded NBN first. Ahh ahh just wait for it to happen.

Your link shows the UDM Pro and not the UDM Pro Max.
UDM Pro Max has not shown up on SG website yet. But you can find it in US website and it does 5Gbps IDS/IPS.

UDM Enterprise has not been announced yet. It is currently based on rumored/leaked info.

We are talking about the future when Starhub clears the stock of Nokia ONR and changes to ONT. So the price will be higher with WiFi 7 router.
Not necessary the price will be high, it may be the same price as the price of hardware will drop for sure. Yes one day this will happen as they clear the stocks. May be in another 3 to 6 months.

But is this plan bounded by the trial period? Or am I late in the game that there's no more trial period for the 10gbps plans and is now fully commercialized?

As per Starhub UltraSpeed FAQ, Ultraspeed 10Gbps as of 29 April 2024 has been upgraded to a commercial plan with no changes to subscribers broadband speed, subscription rates, or contract terms.

They did not mention UltraSpeed 5Gbps, I believe it is also fully launched.

What is UltraSpeed service?
UltraSpeed services includes Ultraspeed 5Gbps and 10Gbps Broadband plans on a 24 months contract. Ultraspeed 10Gbps as of 29 April 2024 has been upgraded to a commercial plan with no changes to subscribers broadband speed, subscription rates, or contract terms.

I am not too technical on this. Is the Nokia ONR bad though?

ASUS AiProtection is a collection of tools containing the following

Router Security Assessment
Malicious Sites Blocking
2-Way IPS
Infected Device Blocking

It won't beep you unless the above happens

Adguard Home/Pi-hole are useful for ads and trackers protection. Of course it can also protect against malicious sites

So the difference between the 2 is clear. Have 2 will have added protection

Bad as per the reports here. Initially @Henry Ng was okay with it but lately he also complained about the Nokia ONR.
Got it. Hope the bros here can give me feedback as I said earlier, im not too technical. If i get this 5gbps, can i make the nokoa ONR like a fiber terminal point only and connect my asus ax88u as my main router? I feel asus brand better to invest for mesh in case i decide. According to the spec sheet, the ax88u 5ghz band is up to ~4000Mbps. I just feel like reusing my existing router 🤣 and i dont intend to max out the speed anyway since im not a power user but i just like the idea of getting amazing speeds.

ASUS AX88U only has the following 1GB ports. How to work best with 5Gbps input?

I/O Ports
RJ45 for Gigabits BaseT for WAN x 1,
RJ45 for Gigabits BaseT for LAN x 8
