if you are buying via RSP, just continue to buy.

most of us, dont know when is the bottom..
hence there's no best time.

i have around 30k of STI ETF
average unit at 2.84
paper loss at 4k

but fret not..

i have good success with STI ETF during my younger days.
and bought more when STI hit below 2k..
eventually sold them off when STI hit 3.4k

perseverance

What is the cheapest option to buy STI ETF? My fixed deposit just matured and the current rate pretty bad.

Buying and selling this STI ETF online is it exactly the same as buying and selling any other stock counter?!

Meaning if we buy 10 lots of STI ETF at 2.790 and then we sold off the 10 lots of STI ETF within the next few days at 2.890, that means we have earned a net profit of $1000(before brokerage costs) is it??!

That's correct. But if you are going for a quick buck, why go for sti etf?

1 lot is 10 shares, so 10 lots is 100 shares...$0.10 profit per share multiply by 100 is only $10 profit...

If you want $1,000 profit from $0.10 increase in price you need to buy 10,000 shares or 1,000 lots...This is before brokerage fees for both buying and selling...

So you need to fork out $27,900 to get $1,000 or 3.58% profit if you think it will go up to $2.89/share...

I think they changed the lot size for ES3 to 10 shares. (pls correct me if I'm wrong)

Yup is 10 shares in your trading platform.

Those platforms with minimum 25 bucks commission would avoid buying in 10 to 90 shares.

Only ignorant people will use those that charges minimum $25...

It still got nothing to do with the fact that one lot of STI ETF be it ES3 or G3B is 10 shares...

Edit: Just to add, it is not about buying 10 to 90 shares but the fact that it is in multiples of 10, you can buy 350 shares if you got $1,000 to spend on the STI ETF and not having to have large uninvested money or topup additional money as shares in multiples of 100 can be a few hundred dollars difference...

Have entered 10k shares into sti etf @ average $2.90 per unit.

Will be continuing to buy on any dips now.

All-in price for me should be around $2.50-$2 60.

Prepare to load up to 60k shares for es3.

If interested to buy sti, i suggest to start buying small. If price drops further, buy a bit more. If price drops further, buy a bit bit more, progressively as price drops. Have a target entry price.

STI is such a joke

i wonder if it'll hit 4000 in my lifetime

I doubt so, unless they start to add value stocks that has good growth potential. But looking at the sad state of local ipo, I think no chance. Maybe 3500-3800 got chance, 4k very hard.

Bring down your expectation with STI.

A long term total return of 5-6% pa is what I expect.
