screw this. i rather dump all into US ETF, kthxbye

Unless you don’t work in Singapore and your friends and family doesn’t, you realise that wishing bad things happening to STI ain’t a good thing for yourself right?

Yes you may do well on the stock market. But you wish for Singapore economy to tank?

I know what you mean.

Sg market is boring, return not great but safer & predictable.

STI market is regulated and supported by our Sovereignty fund.

How is it when we compare trading Futures index like SIMSCI vs STI ETF?
Which cost of trading is higher?
For futures, we can go Long or Short, and there is no decay in value

What I understand simsci commission is 10.70 for a single lot?
So if bought 290.10 and breakeven is about 290.30?

For those who do both, can share some views?
Haven’t touch etf before

hi guys, just chanced upon this thread and starting to read from first page..

Total newbie to investments, just want to invest in something instead of letting the money rot in the bank.

I have about 10k lump sum that I can afford to invest in, I can also put aside maybe $500 a month for investments, read somewhere that STI ETF is probably the way to go, any advices on where and how should I start?

also heard about SSB but I think that doesnt belong to this thread haha

many thanks in advanced, would appreciate all of your help

I ditched STI ETF more than 3 years ago and put all that money into all the large SG REITs. Have been very happy since. I really don't understand why people want to invest in STI ETF.

STI ETF provides some diversification but you hv to look at the component stocks and ask yourself whether you are keen on those stocks. And also look at its track record. STI ETF was $3.33 5 years ago n it is $2.55 today.

It’s still different things we are talking about.

Cheapest way to do it is probably through either FSMOne RSP(0.08% min.$1) or POSB/DBS InvestSaver (0.82%).

For sti etf, i dun tink it is a good idea to dump $10k in as a starter. Consider $5k lump sum @ $2.50 to have a feel of it 1st.

Since u r also thinking of investing $500 mthly, u should use fsmone rsp. It is the cheapest rsp broker which also allows self trading.

As for the remaining $5k, u can decide to dump in when sti drops further and u still comfy with this investment, or put into a better investment.

Ssb is terrible for now because its int is less than fd alrdy.

I am totally clueless about this and from the blogs I have read, seems like it is the most popular/recommended way of investing, and low cost too.. I have not read about REITs and the likes hence..

Cheapest way to do it is probably through either FSMOne RSP(0.08% min.$1) or POSB/DBS InvestSaver (0.82%).

Thanks, I have read about this and posb/dbs invest saver can buy G3B, correct? still considering between this and FSMone, seems like FSMone is the cheaper and better way.

Yes, I have noticed the interest rate for the SSB in recent months has been declining, jun20 bond full 10 year is only at 1.78%.. will avoid for now and see how things goes in months to come.

in addition to the lump sum, yes i intend to invest some money monthly as well.. btw, are there any differences in investing quarterly or semi annually in compared to monthly? also I read that FSMone is a custodian, meaning the stocks I have is under a "trust", correct? what use is my CDP account if I decide to open a custodian account then? is it more risky?

Thanks everyone for the replies! I will read up as much as I can
