My point was that unless you are able to consistently time the exits and entries consistently over a span of 30-40 years you will not outperform the market, drawndowns are pretty much irrelevant unless you are retired or near retirement (due to sequence risk).
This is a function of own investment/trading process, i.e. skills. As long as a person keep practising and learning from mistakes, starting with small account sizes, it is doable.

Post GFC 2008/2009 rally, there was a big retracement in STI ETF in 2015 (US shale oil oversupply?), up to -27%. I cashed out of Singapore stocks in CPF-IS to CPF-OA cash earlier in Nov 2014.

Now central banks response being faster, the cycle from up to down should be shorter. Just a small caution here.

In this forum, there are many stock market expert that say they manage to sell all their stocks before the crash and then buy at the low.

Unfortunately such information from expert investors is only useful to readers here if they are prepared to share what they are doing, not wait until the crash/rally is over then post =:p

In 2020, I shared my STI ETFs purchases - entry price and quantity. 24,000 at $2.6x

In 2016, I also shared that I was buying STI ETF. Interestingly until I re-read my 2016 post I forgot that it briefly went below $3 in 2015 but recovered, and then went down below $3 again in 2016 📉 📈 =:p

My weakness as mentioned is that I am bad at selling, but I am still happy to share my imperfect strategy - others can learn and improve. But this year I am really going to sell some STI ETF if it goes higher. Its never too late to improve my investing strategies!

Thanks your sharing is good, but I don't sell see any sells so you didn't take profit?
I've already sold out of all STI ETF at 3.29, only holding FCT REIT.

Many ppl in forum may be against the idea of selling their juicy bank stocks and STI ETF due to the high earnings and dividend yield, which unfortunately are lagging indicators. Stock price is forward looking. Dissenting views in forum can give a balanced picture.

In a market there must be buyer and seller so transaction can be done. So you should be glad there are ppl don't sell and so can buy from you when you sell. You should thank them instead. No ?

I’m not an expert but the way to correct your imperfect strategy is just to follow your buying strategy . . Staggered selling as the price moves higher instead of setting a high target price.

As a mature investor, you should learn to overcome your weakness . . Letting go of your acquisition and then not feel guilty if the price continuous to rally after that.

Good suggestion from churnmaster to stagger selling. May I suggest to also think about stagger the time of selling eg. once a week/month, rather than just based on price, because what if some higher target prices may never be hit?

Bought 29k shares ES3 mostly around March/April 2020 and sold all all $3.265 all the way to $3.319 in Jan 2022.

And unbelievably it went further up before Putin launched a war .

Hi guys, just curious why do I not get the ES3.SI ticker symbol when I tried to look for it in the DBS SRS investment platform or the fundsupermart platform?

How can I invest my SRS funds into ES3.SI?
