hello! i just got my m4 yesterday and installed a fresh win7 OS on it.

i set the sata controller to ACHI before installing windows and checked that the regedit's msachi "start" is 0.

my cache writing is on too.

below is my benchmark. I've looked at other ppl's m4 benchmark and mine is comparably lower than theirs. is there something wrong with mine??

and which result is suppose to determine if the ssd is running properly? 4k? seq? etc. I've seen ppl's seq read going to crazy numbers (compared to mine)

I ran my m4 on marvell port in sata 3 when I first got the ssd. Then I changed over to intel on ahci and had to reinstall the whole windows. There is a fix for the unable to boot up issue by changing the registry file, so there is no need to reinstall if you are lazy...

In benchmark, intel port is the fastest, but I honestly cannot feel any difference in day to day usage.

Your benchmark numbers are quite low.

Planning to pick up an m4 but I have a question...
If I change from IDE to AHCI then do a fresh install of win7, does my old drives get affected?

Currently have a WD Black as OS drive an Samsung F4 as storage. The former will get reformatted.

No problem since u r reformatting your old drive anyway.

No issue. AHCI or IDE will only affect the boot. If u switch to AHCI w/o resintallng W7, u will need to enable msahci.sys in the registry. But since u r doing a fresh install on your SSD, then no issue. Btw, after booting W7 from your SSD, I suggest u move your cache (such as ie9) to the HDD. Try to minimise write on your SSD.

Your F4 and Black will run ok.

How about considering ADATA S510 120GB SSD NOTEBOOK PACK w/USB3.0 Enclosure @ SRP$265?

It comes with free Data Migration Utility for you to clone your image from your notebook to SSD , then after you can put your hdd into the USB3.0 enclosure & use it as an external hdd.

I would have no consideration what so ever if not for the SandForce Controller used in the ADATA S510 SSDs....

hi everybody, i am using a crucial 64gb m4 on my desktop. recently i have been encountering bootmgr is missing problem and noticed that my bios is not detecting my m4 64gb. i read up on google and they suggested that i do a power cycle. i have only used my ssd 6 months. please help a noob on xmas. i can't use my computer.

is my crucial 64gb spoiled? will a power cycle help? how do i power cycle? The instructions online are too difficult to understand as i'm don't know much about computer.
