Since SDD degrades over time due to writes, is it good to disable paging, if the OS is installed on the SSD? Or do paging on a HDD instead? I got 8GB RAM running on Win7 64-bit.

That is a very logical thing to note. Think I'll shift my paging to another harddisk.

But on the other hand ... the normal harddisk also spoils after few years too. So come to think of it .... not much difference anyway.

What do you guys think?

Set to no paging. Win7 boots up and runs fine. The only thing I am unsure is whether the 8GB memory limit will be breached. Running mainly MS Office 2010 and internet explorer. No games.

And with RAM now so cheap, I think I go get another 2 x 4GB and boost the total memory to 16GB.

unless you write like 100 gigs of data to your ssd per day, i don't think it will degrade that quickly

i installed and uninstalled programs and games regularly on my vertex3 and did not disable pagefile, indexing etc. 1 year on still going strong. in fact, my graphics card died first and i got them both at the same time!

Don't disable page file, reduce it.

I set mine at 16 min, 2048 max.

Hi Guys,

Need some help , bought and installed a M4 Crucial 128 into my 2010 mbp but the read speed seems to be much lower than expected? Any idea what could be wrong?

Already updated the latest firmware.

Hmm quite a big diff between the samsung and crucial m4.

For the Samsung, it's 1 year warranty by Bell for those who are interested.

The current Dell machines that we're getting comes with the Samsung 830. We're looking to buy locally to upgrade the older machines and didn't know where to source.

Thanks for the info everyone! We'll check Bell out. :D

Look through all the AS-SSD benchmarks, at 4K (typical desktop usage), it's most or less even for M4, 830 and Vertex 4.

But the 830 and Vertex 4 leaves M4 way behind when the work load is heavy on sequential writes and 4K 64thrd ( multi-tasking )

The new Marvell controller used in Plextor M5 Pro coupled with Toggle nand seems to be up there with 830 and Vertex 4 based on early reviews.
