i couldnt even install win7 on the ssd ;(
Wait Wait, after i installed then i change to IDE from AHCI and during booting its always stuck at the Windows logo then reboot again and again, so i switched back to AHCI.

Was asking, you mean even in BIOS it doesn't detect?

Thing is that it doesn't. Well, mine was fine during installation. It was during usage that it's not fine

Anyway, i doubt i'll get another SSD yet until its dirt cheap.

Need some advise.
I will need to upgrade my SSD from 120G to 180G.
Should I connect both the SSD when installing win 7? Will it allow me to select the correct SSD for the OS?
How to reformat my 120Gb SSD (OS drive) so that I can use it for data drive? Thanks.

Is there a command like FDisk or format use in normal hdd can can be use for SSD?

Followed the below guide:
Sean's Windows 7 Install & Optimization Guide for SSDs & HDDs

The guide said to just installed the latest Intel RST drivers.
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Sea...2+Intel+Rapid+Storage+Technology+(Intel+RST)"

I picked AHCI: Intel® Rapid Storage Technology Driver for Intel Desktop Boards 11.2.0.1006. There are RAID, RSTe version. Are they the same?

Finally managed to get win in AHCI mode. mobo is GA-EP45-UD3R. Noticed that AHCI mode bios take longer to load, making boot up time as slow as IDE mode. Is that normal? This mobo don't have SATA3 either. Is it still worth it to stick to AHCI?

Thanks for all the tips.

Your 120GB also installed with win 7?

If yes, just clone 120gb to 180gb.

After cloning, boot using 180gb and re-format 120gb using Win 7.

hi,
i'm having problems with my ssd installation again after trying to backup an image of my ssd drive via clonezilla and restoring the image. AHCI mode fail to boot again, I'm force to set to IDE to enter windows.

any idea where did i go wrong? I would like to create a clean image of my win7 installation so that I can revert to a clean version of my os everytime something screws up.

thanks.

Say if i fresh install my os on a newly bought ssd, am i able to set my existing system hdd as secondary and assess my data?

i.e. Copy data over to ssd temporarily, format the hdd, then copy the data from ssd back to the hdd

If you are gonna do a fresh install, just install the os into your ssd using the install cd/dvd and do nothing to your current hdd. It's like installing a new os into a new hdd. Then your current hdd can be used as a secondary drive and you can do whatever you want to it later. No need to transfer stuff here and there, unless of course you are talking about cloning and not fresh install.....

reason why i want to format the existing hdd is to remove the OS and software, to make the HDD purely a data hdd
