Anyone know if parted magic is good for erase my intel ssd520? I want to do a fresh install windows 7 because somehow my os went haywire. Cannot do windows update and turn on firewall.

Parted Magic should be able to secure erase your drive, if your drive supports enhanced secure erase, it will prompt you if you want to execute enhanced secure erase instead.

For SSD, secure erase should suffice.

Hi, i am new to SSD. Under the power management settings, should we set the option "turn off hard disk after X mins" to never since the SSD uses less power?

2.5" SSD still draws some amount of power. If you can put the SSD to a power off state during hibernation, you will find that it will continue to improve your battery life. Anyway, power on ready time for SSD are typically less than 2 seconds, so you will not experience much delay when powering up the system. In fact, in most cases, SSD should not be the bottleneck.

Cheap $15 upgrade

I bought 128gb Crucial M4 last year and used Sata 2 port for it as my 3 year old motherboard did not have sata 3 ports. It didnt matter as it was still pretty fast for me.

Recently I purchased a sata 3 card (ASMEDIA1061) and the speed improved by 60%!

Just gotten my hoot from amazon. 240 gb sandisk extreme .. Install in primary hdd bay in my
Laptop and with only windows it takes 15 sec to boot. Impressive indeed..

However after I install all my program like VMware player, office etc.. it slow down to 45 sec, an additional of 30 sec. This is after I use selected startup (msconfig). This also means I save 35 sec compared using hdd during boot up.

Trim (achi) enabled in bios.

Any idea how to increase boot up speed?

Edit: solved! I originally installed a windows logon wallpaper changer kinda program and after removing it, 20 secs only !

Next I notice is that with a hdd caddy replacing the optical drive, the battery live drop from 4-4.5 hrs to 2.5 - 3 hrs.. Anyone can verify that ssd with hdd combo is worse with a ssd / hdd with a optical drive combo? Wifi on, dimmest display and one level of backlit keyboard on only.

Edit: I post here becos all uses ssd here and have exp.. I also did a lil of google search before I post but it already seems that I was in the right track. :D
