hi folks, anyone knows where i can get intel 320 series ssd 120/160gb? seems like the shops i asked all out of stock...![]()
Can someone recommend me an SSD to improve PC performance?
Would buy a new sandybridge mobo with it.
Budget conscious.
V worth it. Better than upgrade processor I feel. Everything becomes v fast.
If you look back at the development and speed breakthrough we have for the past decades, harddisk performance hardly improved much, the only noteworthy thing is, at least the cost of GB is going down. So it is fair to say that today harddisk is the bottleneck of modern computing systems.Usually when I check the performance, like CPU utilization & RAM, when opening a document, the file/picture takes quite a while to load, while CPU and RAM usage is still very low, even on a celeron 1.6GHz system..
So, the bottleneck is most likely the HardDisk access. In this aspect, a SSD shd be make a big difference to the overall performance.
When ssd first came out, I read this article on the potential benefits of a ssd based on the seek times of various components.
CPU and ram had seek times measured in nano-seconds or less.
Mechanical hdd was measured in milliseconds, so thats a difference from 1000x already.
SSDs push the seek times down to nano seconds and this is where anyone will realise most of the benefits.
