If you are on a budget then maybe intel was a better choice. Call me bias but strontium is a local brand? I doubt the tech support is off par as compared to us/Taiwan..

And it's $290? Even costs more than the intel 320 series..lol

Before you knock off the local brand, do take a look at the numbers in the reviews first. My view is, it only loses out in terms of branding, warranty length to Intel. And Strontium has the benefit of no potential 8mb problem.

1 of my requirement was a sata 3~ hence i didnt went for intel. intel 120 GB so cheap?

edit: intel 320 i meant.

that was an issue for me but.. decided to take the plunge nevertheless.
i took faith in the sticker paste over which the original looks like a M4 in 1 of the review.

Intel 320 is the model name

To be exact, he meant Intel 320 series ( 120GB ) which you can get at a slightly cheaper price in some SLS shops compared to Stontium Matrix.

Though I'm not sure the cheaper priced ones are OEM or Retail pack. Retail Pack comes with 5 yr warranty and 3.5" bracket.

Quick, do some benchmarks and you'll know whether good or bad :D:s12:

I am considering SSD too but I feel my HDD is still very responsive.

Holding back due to the fact that SSD won't make difference to browsing internet and gaming FPS which are my usual activities on my desktop.

If not in a hurry, u can consider the M4 crucial from linkecomputer. The 128gb model is a steal. A $80-100 savings with free shipping.. of course RMA is DIY.. :D

Their shipping is pretty swift too. I got my rams in a week after ordering...

If I were to get, probably will get Strontium Matrix 120gb.

Calculated RMA shipping cost to Crucial USA before, savings of 30+ from initial purchase compare to Matrix (local warranty@USD 225) will be wiped out if you have to send for RMA more than once.

But as it stands, SSD is a luxury item and I don't think it will improve what I do on my desktop by a lot.

My boot time on WD Black is less approx 45-60secs. Game loading times are within my tolerance limits. Internet surfing will still be handicap by Singnet speeds. Thinking of spending on a Sandy Bridge upgrade instead =:p

Yeah, it is a slight gamble. But if you get a non-defective set you have leftover to buy a pair of gskill DDR3-1600 rams as well.. :D

At least the M4 is not using the sandforce controller.. ugh

Reported earlier in to debut in October following it's OEM version...

Hopefully, Samsung pricing will be as competitive as it's HDD division:

Last week Samsung announced its PM830, its first SSD with support for 6Gbps SATA.
Although the PM830 is shipping to OEMs today, it won't be available directly to consumers.
Now meet the consumer version: the Samsung SSD 830.

Samsung is particularly proud of the SSD 830's brushed metal enclosure, unique to the consumer version and absent from the PM830.

Architecturally the SSD 830 is no different than the OEM version.
It still has an updated Samsung controller with two ARM cores, a 6Gbps SATA interface and Samsung's own Toggle NAND.
Also like the PM830 the SSD 830 supports full drive AES-256 encryption, putting it in the ranks of Intel's SSD 320 and the SandForce drives.

Although the PM830 is only available in 128, 256 and 512GB sizes, the SSD 830 will include a 64GB version as well. Pricing is TBD.
