use the PCMark HDD benchmark, and compare single drive to 2x raid 0 you'll be even more shocked.

What's the caching policy? write thru or write back? this is VERY important.
you will see serious write performance hit if you choose write through

Intel and Micron announces world's first 20nm 128Gbit NAND flash

If all goes well, then we can look forward to much larger SSDs come the second half of next year as Intel and Micron has announced that their joint venture IM Flash Technologies will be launching 128Gbit NAND flash sometime in the second half of next year. In the meantime, we'll have to make do with IMFT's 20nm 64Gbit NAND flash which the two companies announced has gone into mass production

During installation, most programs would allow u to choose the drive to install to.

Anyway, steps below
To change the registry, follow these steps:
1. Start Registry Editor by entering “Regedit” in the search All programs.
2. Locate the following:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
3. Right click on the value named ProgramFilesDir & change the default value C:\Program Files to the path you want to install all your programs in.
4. Click OK and Exit.

I'm not sure why you want to change Program Files to the non-SSD drive (except for capacity). Shouldn't the program files be better served residing on the SSD?

Instead, are you asking how to move personal files (downloads, music, pictures) to the HDD instead?

hello! i just got my m4 yesterday and installed a fresh win7 OS on it.

i set the sata controller to ACHI before installing windows and checked that the regedit's msachi "start" is 0.

my cache writing is on too.

below is my benchmark. I've looked at other ppl's m4 benchmark and mine is comparably lower than theirs. is there something wrong with mine??

and which result is suppose to determine if the ssd is running properly? 4k? seq? etc. I've seen ppl's seq read going to crazy numbers (compared to mine)

I think you are using SATA2 instead of SATA3

but now i have a different problem. I just rewired it from the intel sata2 controller to the marvell sata3 and now it doesnt boot. It hangs at a blank screen or the "starting windows" screen.

can i not swap it like that? must i reformat the ssd again?

edit: ok looks like im in the marvel sata3 vs intel sata2 situation.. which is recommended? so far google says to stick with sata2
still cant figure out why windows doesnt boot in sata3 too

Reco to stick with the native driver which in ur case is the intel driver.

In our typical everyday usage(Unless u're rendering videos etc etc) we wont manage to see the difference between II and III..

Yes. I switched from SATA2 to native SATA3 on my crucial M4, there isnt much real world differences.
The marvel port do not support TRIM, they are capped at around 375MB/s and deliver very poor 4K read and write performances compared to the Intel if i remember correctly.

you left out the limited write cycles.

Not a concern if not using SSD as scratch disks or windows pagefile.. but the fact is, SSDs are not suitable for such uses.
