Hello,

Just to check if i installed my win 7 without switching to AHCI in bios, do I need to reinstall again before I can switch it to ACHI?

eh if my motherboard has the drivers for the AHCI, can i just install in n den activate AHCI when i reboot? will it work also? or are the native win 7 drivers better?

Hmmm not sure about that actually; but I'd advise you follow the instructions as listed to correctly change from IDE to AHCI first. If not, you will not be able to boot correctly.

It is possible for most cases. Just need to follow the instructions.

I have done so successfully for my rig using Win 7 previously.

However, as always, it is better and recommended to do a fresh install when going from HDD to SSD.

So if the motherboard do not support AHCI , does it mean this 330 SSD cannot be use ?

hmmmm

128gb
intel 330 ssd is $210
intel 520 ssd is $255

so can we say if the 520 has stock it is much worth it ? 45 for 2 more years of warranty and better performance

Looking at the bang-per-buck we can see why the 120GB Intel 330 looks like such a hot deal. In round figures, if you buy the 120GB Intel 330 series SSD over the same-capacity Intel 520 series, you are getting 90 per cent of the performance for just 70 per cent of the price. (using Amazon UK prices)

Read an article that the NAND used is "slightly" difference. the one in 330 cannot support as much write cycles as the one in 520, hence the warranty of 3 yrs compared to 5 yrs for the Cherryville.

Can use. In IDE mode.

However without AHCI ( and Win 7 OS ), you do not have native TRIM support.

But "IF" Intel are able support this 2 new SSD models via Intel SSD Toolbox Optimizer function, then it should all right in my opinion.

From the download link, the newer models are listed but only users of 330/520 can confirm for you whether the optimizer function is workable in a non-AHCI environment.

Unless your boards is from eons ago, it is very unlikely that your board does not support AHCI.

If it's for me, I don't mind paying the slight premium for additional 2 years warranty :D

Trim works in IDE mode, but i didn't read the details...
