intend to get a 128gb to replace my suspected dying kingston 64gb.

which is the recommended drive to get now?
vertex 4? Sam 830? m4?
will be ordering from the us..

Hmmm looks like Intel 520 120GB have dropped to a really reasonable level now, is it worth to buy ?

in the budget of 150-170s, considering the Crucial m4 128GB, Samsung 830 128GB and Intel 520 120GB now.

will be on a SATA2 board so lol.........

personally i would suggest get M4 .... especially you on SATA2 :)

curious, i ran the cmd "fsutil fsinfo ntfsinfo c:" on my ssd drive and the output is--
Bytes Per Sector : 512
Bytes Per Physical Sector : 512
Bytes Per Cluster : 4096

kinda surprised, i thought at least "Bytes Per Physical Sector" should be 4096 for ssd? instead it looks like mine is 512-byte native (like older non-advance format hdd), if so how come proper alignment during os install is required?
Information about Microsoft support policy for large-sector drives in Windows

How about SanDisk Extreme? Bought the 480Gb yesterday at $529,installed it and running it. Gonna do benchmarks soon.
I just went for the cheapest and biggest ssd to replace the freaking slow HDD which came with my new Y580 laptop.

Agreed. The Y580's 5400rpm is a bottleneck to the laptop. After I swapped it out for a Sandisk Extreme 120GB, Lenovo Boot Optimizer timing dropped from 75sec to 21sec. See how fast the 480GB will perform on yours. :)

And did u get the full-HD Y580p?

Yes, mine is the full HD version. Love the screen. I had NO REGRETS selling my retina MBP.

Got the test below on drive c (drive d didn't test as I partitioned my drive into 2). Slower than my M4 256Gb on my desktop though by abit.
Is the below performance reasonable?
