You will probably lose friends and will be distanced from family members. Expect to spend some money flying to and fro to go for funerals etc. Also ensure that your employer understands that you may have to fly back if there are emergencies to deal with here.

5 years on, come next election, you may alr see your friends living in good houses, getting a comfy salary, maybe even a car here after getting their promotions and bonuses while you are there struggling with costs and all the associated prob with being a 2nd rated citizen. You come back and you start from scratch again. This has happened to my friends.

You don't pay 30% tax unless you are super high earner. Average I pay 20% and with investment property can lower my tax. I haven't done my tax this year yet. Once I do it I probably have a better idea how much I will be paying.

1 month bonus is not a bonus. It's something the company has to pay irregardless you perform or not. The monthly salary you get is fixed, that is 12 months of pay, but not all months has the same numbers of days. Jan has 31 days, feb has 28 days, so are you underpaid in jan or overpaid in feb? In Aus, I get paid fortnightly, in 1 year I get paid for 26times of 52weeks of pay. If a month has 4weeks like in feb, then I get 13 times pay. Which means in SG, your 12 monthly pay is lesser hence it should be demand to be pass in law for employer to pay 13th month bonus. But they are using what you should getting as a catch to make you work harder and ot all the time.

Yah, like my mom who just arrived here as pr, I brought her go supermarket to buy grocery then she go cut people's queue and her kaisu attitude in SG, when she sees cheaper stuffs than SG, like strawberries in season now, 99cent a box, she will buy all of them irregardless can finish or not. Then every night now I have teach her social etiquette to behave properly in public and lose her kaisu in her.

depend on your comfort zone and your push/pull factors.

mine is IT and i can see just how my field was dominated by the FTs till no sinkies were left.
