Does anyone knows if Suica card bought in-app has any deposit? I used 10k to buy 10k of credit. Seems like there isn't, but good to verify!

Also, if I were to refund this in-app Suica card, how do I do so?

Note that there is a charge of 220 yen for return of a suica card.

Try to use the card to zero, so that you can get a full refund of 500 yen and not have to get 220 yen deducted.

applies to all cards..

btw, where to return?

wanna return my icoca I bought last time before they merged the systems

u can board a train with just the min fare required. (140 yen iirc). U pay the difference when u reach your destination.

They'll be merging the systems? Aka one card works for all instead of having several cards that works on all? I tried googling for some info but couldn't find any. Can you sic your source? I oso holding suica and icoca cards... Haha.

Never heard of it as well.
the cards are from different companies both JR and Non JR. I don't think they can merge

Suica is used not only for trains but also as card for hotels

I have used suica in Hokkaido, and Osaka after the date stated.. all can work alr..

????

So this is what you meant by merging? Lol. I thought you meant they will retire all the different cards and to use only one card for the entire system.

The link you pasted is not something new what. You can return your icoca at any JR West station. I'd be keeping mine though, coz with icoca I can buy discounted Haruka tickets.

After u upload the physical card
To iPhone X or IPhone 8
The phycal card wil be obsolete

So u just tap and go on the gantry but make sure u got enough ÂĄÂĄ

Not sure about the virtual cards u brought from the Suica app but I suppose works the same

Change to japan region is to enabled the Suica option on Apple Pay lor if not u can’t even use it after u got loaded the Suica on to the phone u can change back to which ever region u prefer

As I got spare phycial Suica card so I uploaded mine card

suica can't use on buses or top up value in hokkaido? the reader doesn't allow for top up, only can check value and for bus in noboribetsu, the bus driver said can't.

Do your topup at the convenience stores. Else use cash.

i had that issue.. yup.. some places need to pay cash coz suica not accepted. even the station at hakodate couldn't top up. needed to go to a convenience store (no extra surcharges for topping up via them)

Just an update from using Suica for the 1st time in Japan.. Surprisingly it's very convenient and quite widely accepted even in Fukuoka and Nagasaki. Larger establishments like departmental stores and restaurants are more likely to accept Suica.

I bought 4 virtual Suica cards (topped them up using Apple Pay), and set my iPhone region to Japan. Works flawlessly! But I realized I have to tap the phone for slightly longer duration (1-2 seconds to be safe) versus paywave.

For the first time, I find that I use minimal cash in Japan :s22:
