what about Dell alienware? are they OEM as well? just curious. just happen to saw this thread.

As far as I can tell, no. Alienwares are Dell designed. Totally original, and kinda **** judging by the GamersNexus reviews.

Many large PC companies have their own affliated OEM and ODM arm, Asus/AsRock/Pegatron, Acer/Aopen/Wistron.

I have seen that Reddit post about air purifiers lol, but honestly never bothered or needed to research them. And yes I have tried to steer people away from these brands.

Updated with Android ODM phone manufacturers.

Monitors

Prism+

Generally rebranded Korean/Chinese monitors, like Microboard, Wasabi Mango etc. Plenty of them on Qoo10 and Taobao.

Honestly just buy a branded one from AOC/Acer/Dell. They cost more or less the same anyway.

TV and Soundbar

Prism+

Every single one is a rebranded Hisense product.

Prism+ QE = Hisense A6H
PRISM+ QE PRO = Hisense A7
Prism+ AL OLED = OLED Hisense not selling in SG
Prism+ Flow soundbar = Hisense HS218
Prism+ Symphony = Hisense HS512

Smartphones

I think this Reddit post explains things pretty well.

TLDR: If you are not buying a flagship model, chances are you are buying an ODM design. Nothing wrong with that, since software is still an important part of the experience. But this also explains why flagship models get Android updates, while lower-end models don't or get delayed.

But just know that your cheap Samsung A series phone is probably designed in the same factory as the low-end Xiaomi/Oppo.
Prism+ Q/QE/AL series are not OEM by Skyworth? Always have the impression that it's made by Skyworth, from their remotes being similar to Skyworth to their store display having clues of Skyworth elements.

Never supported Prism+

partly

1) poor support (support asking stupid questions, despite i told them what have i troubleshoot)
2) poor quality control (i have RMAed one model 2 x times within 1year)
3) poor waiting time. waited like a gong kia for my monitor to be exchange.

Prism concept is just weird tbh.

If today i wanna buy a monitor. I head down to their show room to take a look. And say i have decided to buy it. I can never get the stocks in their show room. I have to get it delivered. And anything below $300, there is a $10 local delivery. Wtf.

It just dont make any sense. When questioned, they say they no space keep stock.

If i wanna buy online, i would have bought from lazada or shopee with a much cheaper delivery option.

So i was looking at their productivity monitor. A simple 24 inch fhd monitor cost $159. With Grab Pay there is a 6% off, they slap me another $10 delivery fee and the price back to square one. Whats the point?

Im already at the shop, im already there to pick and go. Everything fallback to online instead.

Ended up just go with samsung 24 inch fhd ips panel going for $138 from Harvey. Cash and carry ready to go.

And we have gamers that SUPPORTED their monitors.. are they blind or don't have such high requirement? or they spent the bulk of money on their rig and they realized that in order to get a good monitor they need to shell out at least maybe $500.. and they don't have the budget anymore.

and i still see they still have people going to their shop at suntec...

Prism appears to heavily rely on manipulative tactics to convince people to purchase its products, such as sponsoring influencers, extensive advertising, and indirectly manipulating or censoring reviews.

Their business model, which primarily involves importing and reselling products, seems to be a poor use of space in Singapore, as they are essentially no different from a typical shop in Sim Lim Square. If I were the government, I would prioritize businesses with innovative products and ideas, rather than those that rely on such tactics.

Prism's products do not seem to sell well overseas, which means that the money is not flowing into Singapore, but going out of Singapore. This kind of business model could potentially harm Singapore's economy in the long run. The more they import & sell, the more Singapore will lose. The same goes for Aftershock.

In contrast, companies like Creative, which make their own products, have gained popularity overseas, contributing to Singapore's economy and enhancing the country's reputation for innovation.

I bought a prism monitor 27" ips 144 hz 1440p years ago. Only reason I did was because buying qnix/wasabi mango and shipping it here costs around the same. They were also the only cheap option around that time(400ish SGD for that spec in 2019 was just crazy for those specs)

However, their DP port was spoilt and they refused to exchange for me even though they did a test and verified that the DP port is faulty. Obviously, that would be my first and last monitor with them.

Nowadays though, their monitor is priced too closely with the branded ones. Might as well get the branded ones.

Interesting thread.

OEM rebrand without any changes to product and no inputs to product R&D is a one level above drop shipping in my opinion. Its a hustle without the hassle of spending on R&D and developing a new product.
