Technically is one member of the Lantern Corps, Green Lantern is a member of the Lantern Corps.

Also have other colours - Red Lantern, Blue Lantern, etc.

Actually all fall back on the Richard Donner thinking

If Superman is so powerful, the only way the threat and villians can be believable to actually threaten or kill Superman will be 3 other Superman or a group of Superman

Otherwise if Superman can't be killed , what's so interesting about the movie

Because sometimes you don't need to be physically brought down by an adversary.

It can be from within. Mental. Self doubt. Inner turmoil and dilemma. Needing to choose between a rock and a hard place.

Bottomline, Superman cannot be in two places at the same time. He can be fast but not fast enough.

Superman has weaknesses to magic as well.

DC needed a different approach as well. Instead of making Superman the first and only superhero on the planet we are introduced to an Earth where superheroes are prevalent. How Superman fits into this environment will be interesting.

DC has many interesting non main Justice League type characters. In fact one may argue that the big 3 have been over done already and boring.

But because Superman is the flagbearing superhero for DC, they had to start with his movie first. I do foresee more movies with non big 3 characters.

I am keen to see a Superman movie set in the current DC comic universe where he interacts with the vast array of other characters.

Gunn's strength is writing an ensemble.

Guy Gardner could be an interesting addition as well.

Having the Green Lanterns also opens to the cosmic side of DC universe. While it is not as rich as the Marvel one, there is potential to be tapped. Daxamites.

Lex is arch enemy. He hates Superman. Hopefully Gunn has a good reason for this which will be compelling.

Lex is like the one that goes around looking for foes that could hurt Superman. Sells them a reason why they should destroy Superman. Otherwise no reason out of the blue some super powered being would want to attack Superman or know how to hurt him etc.

Christopher Reeve had the best Clark Kent … goofy, absent minded … stuff like squeezing orange juice and not realising he pressed too hard and the squeezer would have crushed a normal human being’s hand … Lois Lane pulling stunt to try to make him reveal himself as Superman and instead he uses regular human being methods to save her … these are the things that they need to bring back.

Gunn's Guardians and Suicide Squad follows the formula

Marvel's success follows a certain formula of humor, some seriousness and the final slam bam fight scene

The Dungeons and Dragons movie was great fun simply cos they also did the same formula

It's actually cheaper and easier to do a Lois and Clark than a full on Superman TV show where it must be full of high quality CGI to be acceptable
