Interesting CPU with hyper threading. Hope it ends up in more cheap laptops rather than the Celerons with no hyper threading.

Seems like MS priced this to compete with iPad. It would have been quite attractive if not for the notorious QC with their Surface products. Personally, I think it's a great form factor.

But I do agree that if we include the keyboard, there are good alternatives that are more powerful.

If you are patient, eventually at those IT shows they will give the keyboard free. :s13: It happened to all the Surface. Even the cheapo Surface 3 non-Pro one I bought for my parents came with free keyboard after 1 month of waiting. :s13:

Possible, since I was previously also waiting for the free keyboard deal. However, I am happy to steer clear of MS Surface products till they can proof that they are serious about QC. Each generation of Surface is plague with pretty serious issues, i.e. battery, screen, etc. And they took a very long time to rectify each of the issues. :s22:

Thanks for sharing that info.
I'll hold off pre-ordering for now and wait for the free KB offer.
Definitely keen on getting this.

I would give the eMMC model a miss and go for the SSD model instead, much faster storage performance.
Great that it continues to come with a great screen and the ever awesome pen support.
A pity though that the better config cost $828 and the Typecover and Pen adds about another $200....
For all this with a Pentium Gold processor... suddenly the Surface Pro M3 / 4 GB / 128 GB M.2 NVME SSD seems like a good deal too.
Best to wait for free typecovers promo during the major PC shows... otherwise...
It's a no go for me considering the price point of the full package. =/

At those price points, it’s competing with ipad pro or the entry level sp. So only the emmc makes sense. After all, it’s for light use n speeds are secondary.

And conversely, mainstream consumers buying emmc sku will have a bad experience and have a tarnished Surface image and thus cement Apple's image as a utopia.

My impression of emmc had always been pretty negative.
Even if the use of the entry level surface go is for just light usage , i will still think that a good user experience matters - and reasonable speed matters and contributes to the overall user experience.

Can't help but think that the emmc entry level model is just going to tarnish the Microsoft name in this category

@Ark Law - can't help but agree... then again it will only be the consumers who bought the surface go entry level... for the others i think they will still be win over by the other tiers of the surface go and pro, compared to Apple's offerings

Which is more? You mean iPad Pro?

I am comparing the iPad 2018, not Pro though. Considering if it is just light usage, there may not be a need to get an iPad Pro. Even with 2GB, iOS is significantly more memory efficient than Windows 10.

Speed aside, I am more concerned about the longevity of eMMC. It is cheap not just because of the slower speed I believe.

Most YouTube reviews recommend getting the higher model if budget allows.

Once you remove the marketing bullcr*p, this is basically MS rubberstamping their Surface branding on a craptop. Other than the kickstand tablet form factor, it is no different from the 11" S$400-800 craptops already on the market.

Which is exactly what MS wants people to do. If I am to get a higher end model, I feel it is a better investment to get an iPad Pro 10.5. The processor used in the Surface Go is really underpowered, which also means there is very limited things you can do with the device. Again, I also need to emphasize on the string of poor QC since the first Surface Pro which I am more concern.
