A normal shock absorber does not have spring.
Think of a coilover as a high-end shock absorber with spring that enhances performance.
AFAIK, coilovers are sold either can be serviceable or un-serviceable.
While everything can be "dismantled" and repaired, the availability of spare parts and the effort to repair it makes it either serviceable or un-serviceable.
The entire suspension system consists of many parts, which part spoilt change that part. E.g. if the shock absorber is leaking, can change it. if some bushing wear and tear, just change that part.
ic, then like that i think most cheap stock car come with normal suspension without spring? Jus like those bicycle suspension?
Then those coil over is they add in themself when they mod their car?

Hi all,
I suspect my 9 year old Toyota Axio is due for front and back shock absorber replacement.
I tried to push down the front or back of my car and it restore to its original position without bouncing up and down. However when the car go over carpark hump or through road pot holes, the knock can be quite harsh.. And when it cruise over uneven roads, I feel like riding on a boat.
Can advise what should be replace? Or anything I can check?
I got this second car 2 years back. Did not change shock absorbers when I took over and doesn't know if previous owner change before or not.Has any suspension components been changed before? If never and if you are not going to renew your coe, just change the shock absorbers will do. The rest , let the tech see. Coz 1 year left, linkage, bushings all these can still use even if it's making sound.
