My opinion is that the majority of SUSS students have a poor command of English, including myself.

The grammer and vocabulary in my english language is severely lacking.

To answer to OP's answer, my opinion is that majority of employers don't recognise SUSS as a degree holder, including mine. My definition of recognition is to be conferred the same amount as what the NUS/NTU/SMU students salary pay grades are, or an equivalent position. I would be realistic in my expectations since I know I lack the same pedigree and calibre to be on the same footing. Capitalism: market forces to dictate rates.

Please see the article below.

First batch of SUSS accountancy

SUSS confessions

2667. "@2666 straits time page B9, it's behind a pay wall. I've extracted the pertinent information, 86% of accounting graduates secured full time employment within 3 months, average pay of $3,800, $200 higher than the average.

Also, they mentioned that there were 5,700 applications for 700 places for the FT program in 2018. School is planning to increase the next intake to 1,000 students in 2019.

There are currently 30 accounting students alternating semesters of work / study.

I feel that's one advantage of SUSS, they're very flexible in allowing you to continue working in the company even after work attachment. SUSS is willing to make the appropriate arrangement to suit your needs.

actually if people were not overly concerned about this 'recognised' issues ~

there's so many top ranking universities around the world that offer bachelors degree programs online. don't even need to set foot on campus for anything.

As a working adult, it's just a starting point.

How you do later on is defined by your work performance. It's just a means to an end. After you work for a few years, people don't look at your degree but your job experiences.

Recognition to me only means one thing. Does the government recognize it? If yes, then you will not have a problem earning a decent living.
Since SUSS is an initiative by the government itself, it is recognized.

To me as long as you are from the 6 local uni, degree result plays a much bigger role in securing a job. This is why i am quite puzzled by SUSS wanting to mark everyone down. It's one thing to have rigorous standards, it's another to fail everyone, or force them to drop out.

Full of ****.

After all we are the ones paying them so lets act like the customer and voice out our dissatisfaction"

Might as well ask for straight A.

"Stop others from joining the school "

They wouldn't join if they can make it elsewhere.

You want easy paper, good grades, respected and recognized. Xiao difficult ah. Raise the standard or else suck it up ah.

Plus most of the people aim for pass. Not A. Which sort of explain the attitude and result. Everything good comes at a price. Everything worthy cost someone something.

Saw this and seriously unless they raise the standard. A 4.25 in SUSS is only gonna be equivalent to a 2.X from NTU/NUS.

I think people are frustrated at the school, since the standards went up quickly. We are caught in the transition and it's just disheartening to be a B/A student in JC/polytechnics, only to know that you are a C/D student in SUSS, and not understanding why.

It seems to be a rather common phenomenon worldwide.

I would think that the guy who posted it should be more realistic about his expectations. I'd admit that I am one of those who aim for passes because I don't have any background and I find it a little hard to absorb and understand in 6 lessons, and I'm exhausted from juggling work and study.

Edit: It might be an excuse to be lazy though, since I know that I can do better.

Having interacted with govt scholars before, or minimally people who are from NUS/NTU/SMU, I can say that there is a world of difference between SUSS students and them. We have a lot of catching up to do.

If they are a B, we're closer to a D or E. Frankly speaking. Our papers look like it was done by a primary/secondary school while you can see The Shining Grades of research in theirs.

I've heard of a comment from a lecturer who teaches both polytechnics and us... Some people's papers are worser than even the polytechnics students.

It's just that people don't want to tell you the real truth. Good medicine tastes bitter.

Personally, I learn by understanding what is the gold standard. I think most SUSS students are rational and mature students.

If you show them an example of what is the gold standard, my opinion is that a lot of people will shut up because they know how far they are lacking behind.

Now is not the best time to join SUSS as they are in transition period.

No, there is no issue if they want to up the standard. I am fine with that. But looking at the changes, they seem to be using students as guinea pigs. This same sentiment is felt by many of my peers in school.

So far the general mentality now is...Quickly finish and call it a day before the school implements more changes.

Think the school should have more lessons rather than just 6.

i won't generalize until like that la. there are some Unis that you graduate from, you can go 5 years jobless/slack around and anytime pick up and get a high end gig.

but those are few. in general, yeah, work experience would be more important, esp in a technical role. a degree becomes a tick on the job application form.

Best is accumulate as much work experience as possible

yea.. sometimes experience help, but sometimes wont as sometimes the concept taught is different from the work one.

For example, HR,we may learn 7 steps in job analysis but in our work, it might be 5 steps.. Even if the work might be 7 steps also ,the steps is different and it would be an issue when the exam ask u the state the 7 step before explaining. But generally in the broader perspective, it does help

Well, thats the norm isnt it ? As different industries and different companies have their own way of doing/standards

But it is more practical and realistic

For example, the motivation theories in the HR modules, how many of them are really applied in working world ?

ya.and u wont tell ur boss" boss before i do this for the employee,i want to read the motivation theory for u.aiya boss, sorry i forget the theory header".

real life context is more to explain.. as for exams, sometimes they ask u list the concept "header" before explaining, sometimes they list for u, u just have to explain only..

I took one module last sem, all the papers all listed for u already. dont even need recall the concept name, the factors naming.. they test mainly on application

That why divasion i think u better faster go accumulate more experience, the full time have internships and others part timer may not have, if u not enough job experience i also dont know how to compete for a job
