Is 1st Supplies pte ltd the one at Joo Chiat? If so, don't bother. I bought some frozen meats from them and realize even NTUC sells about more than half the stuff they carry for either cheaper or the same price. Very few selections also. :s27:

What a fvcking wholesale disappointment. I hate places that quote "wholesale prices" as a marketing gimmick.

The same can be said of shrimps which are basically bottom feeders taking in all the waste and rubbish. In fact prawns and other shellfish are so toxic that several well known medical specialists and even plastic surgeons expressly forbid their patients to eat them after an operation because they found more inflammation and wounds don't heal easily or worse, deteriorate.

Yup, after I had extreme accupuncture in China, I was ordered to stay off shellfish for a month.

It's the same fish that fish&co/manhattan fish market/every western restaurant uses in their fish and chips. I wouldnt say it tastes bad. You just need to know how to cook it properly to get rid of the fishy smell.

I can't seem to recall if Pangasius or sutchii has a distinct muddy taste. I believe the supermarket actually stocks both. In addition, crocodile meat is actually pretty good.

Dear all, sorry to wake this old thread.
To reduce the muddy/fishy taste, wash cleanly, rub the fillet well with salt & pepper before cooking. Hope this helps ;)

recently discovered this brand called "Food for Friends". Their sutchi is being labelled as "premium pangasius fillets" if im not wrong.

the fillets looks the same but somehow the texture is very different. Meat is dry and flaky with no muddy smell compared to other brands which are wet, jelly, slimy, smelly and excrete lots of water when cooking. It's 1kg for $8.90, would rather pay more for quality. Bought mine from a Giant supermart

I usually buy this brand "HV", approx $5 for 800g and it has a dolphin logo. No fishy odour or muddy taste. And I'm the kind that can't stand sardines or fried fish one.

I think GIANT's own brand also not bad, but haven't tried that for a long time.

i always eat this fish, cos its cheapo :(

rub a lot of salt on it, then leave it for 5mins, then rinse the fish.

beat 1 egg, add corn flour, then cut the fish into bit sized, dip into batter and fry in butter.

And then turn it into junk food? Do you know by adding corn & flour deep frying it, you're adding lots of crap that your body doesn't need?

Please! Forget about deep frying if you want it to remain a healthy meal. Rub some spices & garlic salt then grill it.

My favorite way to eat this is in a spicy tamarind soup. Easy and no fuss.
