Watever u know is abt however much u know more than me lol

I will do an analysis of what I found to be diff between competitive freestyle and Total Immersion Freestyle.

competition free ( my own style)
-head is slightly position up so that i let my leg drop slightly to have the extra catch of water
-arm exit is at maximum extension and as close as to your body as possible
-arm entry ( extend your arm as far as you can during water entry and pull )
-rotation almost to my side so that my body is at maximum length

TI free
- back of the head is just skimming under the water so that your whole body position is flat and just under the water surface
- arm exit slightly earlier ( near where your jeans pocket is )
- arm entry is a 'drop' and follow by body 'roll' , it is a premature entry at 4 0'clock compare to competitive entry
-body rotation is half of what i normally would.

Open Water (I have very limited experience on this )
- read the waves before you swim. If there is an earlier race , try to see which direction the waves are bringing the swimmers to,
then adjust your race strategy ( ie , if the waves are pushing people to the left side , try to run rite first at the beach and dive in(beginning of race) . I did that before and came out 1st :))
- sometimes , in the middle of the race , i will do breaststroke kick and freestlye pull so that my head can pop up and know where I am going
- before the race take a good look at where the finishing line is , visualise yourself coming in from the sea .( this really helps cause , you will be quite dis-oriented when you are at sea.
- practise , practise , practise ( open water)

Well, guess there are many more differences, am still learning :)

Thanks tongkualongan for sharing the knowledge.

May I request you to edit your above post to also include the characteristics of Open Water (sea) Free?

Once again, thanks in advance.

No, not because of taking photo.

1st time was helping a weaker girl against head-on current until forgot to regulate own breathing.
2nd time was equipment fault.

Both E-ascends were without safety stop. All the way to the surface while breathing out the very last bit of air from lunge.

Wah you are very very lucky you didn't suffer anything serious both times.... I hope I dun encounter this sort of situation in the future.

Me too, I think..... At least I dun notice any side effects other than bloodshot eyes and chlorine hair despite swimming 30+mins almost every other day. Maybe the breathing problem thing only applies to the pro-swimmers. Still, I wish SG would switch to salt or ozone, less damaging to my swimming gear too, the material is breaking apart liao.

I don't think so - I used to train 4-6 hours a day previously :s13:

Yup, my googles don't last more than a couple of months - ditto for my swim trunks

I have also changed total two swimming googles already. The googles lens became very blur (Mong Mong in chinese), visibility becomes really very poor in the pool, even though they were from TYR & Arena

Assuming it is not caused by permanent abrasions, the blurriness could be because the antifog treatment has worn away. For this, scubadivers got 2 standard tactics.
Spit into your lenses and wipe a bit then flush slightly once. This is dependent on the sliminess of your saliva.
Another better one is to use johnson and johnson's tearless :) baby shampoo. Wipe just a few drops inside the lenses, then dip it quickly into water once and shake it clean. Works really well

Good tip ... but after you dip it in water, will the shampoo foam in the goggles?

I usually buy the anti-fog stuff and use in my goggles.

try some breathing yoga technique,6 secs/24 secs/12 secs ( breath in/hold/breath out)
it will slow down your heartbeat and improve you diaphragm muscles :)

Is that for swimming? I usually breathe out after breathing in, never tried holding breath before ... sounds very shiong.

Anyway , I am transitioning from my competitive swim style to TI swim now, it is harder than I thought , I have to unlearn and relearn everything.

I'm quite curious about TI, any links to check out? How are you learning it?

Foaming is minimal after you dip and shake it a bit, not really noticeable once the diving starts anyway.
Another tip, what I do on dive trips is to use a tiny spray bottle I got for 50cents from mama shop which originally held some flavoured water. Fill it with a mix of shampoo and water, then just spray into lens and rinse. Very convenient and easy this way, and since its diluted already, foaming is minimized even further ;)

I just spit, spread it around and then do a light rinse...

Works for me every time :D
