i used a float... :X
never kick
haha

TI actually is for lazy people who like do use minium effort for maximum result. Well... you never need a float at all and your body balancing is important for those starting to learn TI. In fact, the book said that knowing your balancing point is first to begin with before you proceed on. Different people got different balancing point and we need to find out where is our balancing point.

doing minimum and achieving maximum results sounds good!
so using a pull buoy to train is just counter-productive?

the library has the book and a lot of the videos as well...
yup went to do a search, library near me have loan them all out. (pasir ris, tamp)

went national library yesterday, and saw "Extraordinary Swimming for Every Body: A guide to swimming better than you ever imagined" a small-ish book, seems good with pics, but the book is non-borrowable(R section) and i cant stay long.

amazon has the "Total Immersion: The Revolutionary Way to Swim Better, Faster, and Easier (Paperback)", larger dimension(size) wonder if there is a difference in content?

ty for help bro ny and yxy, me wants to learn swimming more efficiently

Me too, me too!

I was inconsistent in my strokes - sometimes I can swim fast, the next time swims slow and ran out of breath and form.

Thats why I believe in getting it correct with guidance once and for all :)

It would be better if you can get the video rather than the book cos picture say a thousand words and you can learn better that way. :)

A word of caution. Do not use pull buoy often. Although pull buoy is good for you in focusing your arm without the need to kick at all, you will soon lost your sense of body balance and making your leg lazy.

Not really - me too cant do a proper butterfly though I can do a decent Freestyle and good breast-stroke and ok back-stroke.

Maybe just havent got the right form and technique of doing it?

Butterfly involves hip and shoulder movement that is why is very different from other stroke. :) So the trick is when you bend down your hip, lean your shoulder forward (Downward) and vice versa. That will give you a execution of the dolphin kick. For start learning fly, this is where you should begin. :)

Chest out, locked back and keep your body straight when doing your prone gliding. :) This is one of the most basic and yet the most important exercise in swimming.

In front crawl, body roll is important if you want your body to be slippery and fast. The rotation of the body come from the hip which in turn driven by the leg kicking action. Sound like total immersion? :)

How is your training so far? Any improvement? Keep a log book to check your lap and timing. You seems to be able to swim 50 m per min consider ok la. :)

This is one of another good drill to start with.
Object of this flutter kick is to make you realise which arm to pull at which leg kick.

This is what you can do:
1) Practise major flutter kick (Hard kick) x 5 sets (1 set range between 30 kicks to 40 kicks depending on your capability.

2) Practise minor flutter kick (soft kick) x 5 sets ( each set consist of 30 to 40 kicks)

And we will add the combination of the major and minor kick which I will share next week to show you how. Have fun training. :)
