anyone can help shed some light on their OPAL (Ezlink) cards?

I saw from the web https://www.opal.com.au/en/fares-and-benefits/fare_information_train/ that there's a daily cap of $15 for adults.

Does it mean if I take the train to Katoomba (Blue Mountains) and back to Sydney Central area, it will only cost $15?

A return ticket costs $17.60 if OPAL is not used.

And if I travel on a Sunday, it's only $2.50? LOL

Also, any cost for the OPAL card? Cuz it seems to be better than the MyMulti 3 card... Thanks!

You are correct (as far as I know) about the max daily fare = $15, even for Sydney to Katoomba.
Also, the maximum chargeable is $60 in a week (Mon-Sun).
Yes it is probably a better deal than MyMulti3, since you won't be using it every day to go to Katoomba. In any case $60 is less than MyMulti 3 ($65).

If you plan on visiting attractions in and around the city, a car is a real nuisance. Damn expensive to park.
Most of the city is quite accessible by bus, train, ferry.
Easiest is to park along bus or train route in the outskirts, then catch public transport into the city

i havent planned my itinerary yet... but ya, was thinking city should be ok with public transport. But not sure should I drive to Blue Mountains, then continue to Byron Bay then Gold Coast, and lastly Brisbane...

need to plan first then seek the experts help here...

Ya I recommend using public transport in Sydney city.
Only affordable to drive in at night

Where in Sydney are you planning to stay? If in the city, then I would say, forget about renting a car during those days.
Try to plan the non-car days together, then after see finish, rent car and get out of the city.

There is no short route from Blue Mountains to the Pacific Highway (Sydney-Brisbane) except basically heading back to Sydney outskirts then turning north. Unless you planning an extended road trip through the interior (Lithgow, Bathurst, Orange, Dubbo, Armidale, etc)

hmmm... should be stay city cuz more accessible. But not sure where to stay yet. Any recommendations? SGD $150 per night...

Blue Mountains has quite a few nice places where it isn't so accessible by public transport. Unless you're talking about just going to 3 Sisters and the famous spots But having a car gives you much more flexibility. At not much more cost, I think it's a better option.


as for accommodation, well... I normally don't spend on accommodation when I visit Sydney, so I can't really advise you on this! Did stay 2 nights at Travelodge Sydney (near Museum Station) before. Found it not bad.

Not sure abt you, but to me, holiday is not about ticking off a list.
So as long as I enjoyed my holiday, that's most important

and any food recommendations which is a must eat? =D will be going to sydney for 1 week.. have already planned a day trip to blue mountains with activity tours.. hehe..

any other must go? will be skipping hunter valley as i will be heading to yarra valley.

Birkenhead Point is not bad.
Free parking and some decent shops.
Bought a North Face jacket there at a reasonable price.
Bondi Junction Westfield seems quite 'atas' now after the renovation. Didn't buy anything there.

anyway I'm not much of a shopping person...

Yes Hurricanes is awesome for ribs. Pancakes on the rocks is good too. Ditto Sydney Fish Market. For fine dining, definitely Quay.

sure! going on 30 april.. and back in sg on 26 may.. LOLLLL.. but i will be gg to sydney -> launceston -> swansea -> hobart -> GOR -> Yarra valley -> Melbourne..

hello.. i will be visitin sydney from 1 may to 6 may.. which would card would be more suitable? will be stayin at mercure sydney.. tinkin of heading out for a day to bondi beach.. and i have alrdy bought a day trip to blue mountain..
