Was, but retired over ten years ago. I wasn't a dev, but I program for a hobby and can spot poor code and lousy programmers. And majority are.
Spotting is easier said done.. than doing something perfect in limited CTR cost, time, resources...

One year in tech = five X in non tech.

Even if tech lose job and gets another tech job that pays half of previous salary.

One year in lower salary tech = 2.5 X in non tech.

Always pity those in non tech, no matter economy good or bad non tech always loses.
They spend more too

Depends again.

Recent chopping in lazada is mainly on the sales teams. I know some of them.
How is Lazada a tech company? They are at best an e-commerce company and their salaries aren't fantastic.

E-commerce platform who is owned by alibaba.

If lazada is not a tech company means amazon (e-commerce), tesla (car manufacturer), facebook (social media), apple (phone retailer), nvidia (chip seller) all are not tech companies.

As for salaries i dont know their HR so its anyones guess.

It is happening.

Two friends from a Big Tech co. last year were told due to cost cutting, to choose between holding the same role but at one grade lower or leave with payout. This was a top down global policy applied across many departments to cut costs. One took the paycut and title was changed from manager back to executive, but same role. The other left for greener pastures.

I also know of places where people were let go and the same job function was taken up by a cheaper team. Or more expensive people are let go, and they had to find a job with lower salary due to current market.

So the net effect is “salary went down”.
So salary went down, cost of living went up. How to balance the equation?

Huh? I'm sure you can find much better comparisons no?

Amazon makes most of their money from AWS, not e-commerce.

No one ever said Tesla is a tech company. But yes they can loosely be considered one since they do have new tech innovations

Facebook has metaverse, VR and AI?

Apple is a phone retailer? What about iOS, and Macbooks?

Nvidia already had virtual GPUs and VDIs and ventured into AI since years ago. They have long stopped being just a chipset maker since forever.

Unless you're telling me Lazada does more than just e-commerce, then no they barely qualify as a tech company.

He must be over the moon now

Tech sector believes recent layoffs could stem ‘frothy’ asking salaries, 'may not be a bad thing': Tan See Leng

“Now, they are cutting what doesn’t contribute to revenues (non-tech roles). Thus, my current expectation is that the market may not have significantly affected experienced professionals with expertise in engineering, coding, and technical roles and functions," he added.

Very blunt, sales/mkting/hr etc are not essential, and there are too many of such qualifications in sg
