My model x has 300 miles range, 250 miles when charged to 90% as recommended. More than enough to go anywhere for most days and charge at home at night. But supercharger networks definitely reduces range anxiety in knowing that you can always charge somewhere without worrying about being stranded with empty battery.

i see, so if a competitor doesn't have this supercharger network, means its really bad customer service and range limited, therefore, its a must to have it for EV coy

wont be surprised if smaller EV coy will pay tesla so their customer can charge or tesla can operate it like a petrol station

then again, dont think charging business is a monopoly as others can easily step in and fill the gap

There are other charging companies like evgo, chargepoint etc. But the problem is they are more profit oriented so you can only see them in places with a lot of population. It’s also almost always full because they optimize for full capacity. I used to drive a Nissan Leaf and it sucks to charge in these places which are always full. Tesla have superchargers everywhere, even in out of no where places between cities since they don’t care about profit from charging. A lot easier to charge from super charger.

“Tesla (TSLA) is detached from reality,” says one Tesla bear.

“In a nutshell, Tesla is essentially a busted growth story. I know that sounds crazy to people looking at the stock,” Gordon Johnson, CEO and founder of GLJ Research, told Yahoo Finance’s the First Trade.

Johnson has an $87 price target on the stock by the end of next year. (You read that correctly.)

Tesla is “trading at more than double VW’s (VOW3.DE) market cap, yet VW sold 11 million cars last year. Tesla sold just under 370,000 cars last year, looking to sell roughly 500,000 cars this year,” said Johnson.

He notes that without the electric vehicle company’s credit revenue sales, it would’ve lost about $300 million in the second quarter of this year.

“That’s essentially taxpayer incentives that they’re getting for selling credit revenues to other car companies, “ said Johnson.“The problem is all of those car companies are now selling electric cars, and Tesla is guiding their credit revenue sales to be down 50% in the back half of this year.”

“Their core business is loss-making,” he added.

Johnson points to domestic sales and U.S. gross margins which “peaked in the fourth quarter of ‘18,” and notes the China growth story touted by some analysts isn’t that impressive.

“The reality is in the month of July they sold about 11.4 thousand cars in China. They produced about 12.2 [thousand] so they actually built inventory, and that’s despite a price cuts globally this year, four of which were in China,” said Johnson.

“We think reality is much different than what is being pumped out there and we think the stock price is driving analyst opinions which is the buffounding to us, versus reality,” he added.

Tesla has made heads spin and sent analysts racing to re-rate over the last several months.

Year-to-date the stock is up about 385%. Shares will start trading on a split-adjusted basis on August 31st as announced earlier this month.

The stocks valuation in recent weeks has been called “mind-boggling” by one analyst.

In July one of Tesla’s biggest bulls saw the stock headed to $2,322.

Wedbush’s bull Dan Ives recently raised his price target to $1,900. He told Yahoo Finance Tesla “is a tech company, not an automobile company,” pointing to the upcoming Battery Day next month.

But Johnson is sticking to his bearish call, with a just-wait-and-see perspective.

“The real data doesn’t match up. We think once that matches up, you’re going to have selling which we think will drive the stock lower,” he added.

Tech, with the exception of FAMG are in a huge bubble thanks to cash being trash now, TSLA is certainly not the only company that is "detached from reality", I can count at least 30 other mid cap tech companies with similar or even more insane valuations than TSLA, I don't know why people talk about this company like its some outlier in this market.

I read somewhere that based on these valuations means that Tesla sells each car for around $1 million each. If it’s Singapore I can believe due to COE and taxes .

The thingy is that Tesla is not merely an EV company. It is setting itself up to do a host of other businesses which has not quite reach fruition yet.

Can enlighten us in what other business it is doing?

From all the reports I see them selling battery and 4 wheel cars.

The chicken genius is a funny guy, considering chicken and genius are said to be incongruous.

It's energy business ( Solar ) could be as huge as EV.

All of their businesses are interlinked and complement each other quite well.

Automotive expert Sandy Munro was asked what was the most impressive innovation found in the Model Y. He suspects that the SpaceX engineers worked on the octovalve design and he's never seen anything like it before.

"How do you compete with an automaker that has ready access to space engineers?"

Although not confirmed, it's not surprising if they actually did that, using the tech in one sector to innovate in another.
