TFIP IBF Cyber Security

yeah, felt quite jaded after a few interviews. and the track i interviewed for is those considered less technical roles (i.e Agile project management)

It really seem that the FIs are looking more for people who have IT experience who aren't in the industry yet. Not really for newcomers who has neither tech or finance background.

1. How do you access to aws using rdp and access keys?
2. What is VPC and subnet?
3. Do you know how to use terrform?
4. Can you read Pcap file?
5. Can you read flag?
6. Can you tell me how does security event started?
7. What is the complex issue u have handled before?
8. If you unsure attack incident event, what should you do? Then if that is not available what should u? What next and next...

All above, just said dont know hahaa.

In my first interview with an insurer, the hiring manager asked about why you want to get into this role, etc. Nothing on technicals as he said it's not fair to the candidate and not the purpose of the programme.

Scheduled 3 interviews today, all with the same (local) FI -.- two more to go.

Yeah. Unfortunately they don't run a SOC which is what I'm looking more towards.

My next interview is with someone who runs a SOC in the FI. Will be interesting.

That said, he thinks that SOC is not blue team related.. Ah well. Maybe I heard wrong over the phone

No, same track in cybersecurity. All 3 are different teams in the same FI.

Red team is more towards pen testing and attacking.

The question seems to have AWS, Wireshark, 7 and 8 is better answered with someone with experience being in Cybersecurity. Question 8 maybe have to follow standard answers in Incident response

You are right. TFIP so why ask these questions? No experience in these area then join TFIP. If got experience, won't bother at all, i think the interviewer is hiring script writer to create story during interview.

Actually, after going through some interviews, i feel that the interview is not really for new comer for career change, more like normal job interview application process. None is easy, many have tech questions. Does anyone share the same thoughts?

That's my thoughts exactly after going through the interviews. I could tell them I'm learning on my own spare time after work but that kind of passion apparently is not what they're looking for.

Honestly, the interviews have been quite intense for the fact that I sign up for TFIP for a career change without any prior work experience in this area and I also say alot of don't know (lol). I signed as a "trainee". The interviews make me feel like I need a lot of prior knowledge/experience but the fact is yes I have interest but definitely limited exposure since I not even in the industry. I have half my mind to email IBF as the expectations are not even align. It does feels like I don't even stand a chance with them or like definitely "lose out".

My thoughts exactly, coming without an IT background.
Can tell that the FIs want someone with higher competencies. Showing interest alone doesn't make the cut.

I don't even dare to think 'no chance'. This is what we thought, prehaps the interviewers have their own agenda of doing so. You will never know the surprise you will get next month. I take it as interview practise even I don't get a single offer. I also need to respect the interviewer time spent on me.

You are right on that, it does help after going through one and really read up again for the next "test" (interview). They may have their own agenda, just that if this is a programme with a criteria of no work experience should have some leveling. Let's say both trainees, the work expectations for those who have abundant of knowledge most likely expect to do more. On hindsight, there are other FIs interview that is literally just interest and chit chat. It differs alot from FI to FI.
