How much is the pay cut per year compared to 5.5k x 12? Remember you have to factor in the costs of the SMU courses as well as the on job training at the financial institutions. These combined might cover your pay cut difference.

About 42k per year. Justifiable? What are the SMU courses that we are going to take?

Suggest you attend the briefing this Friday to find out more on what courses and certifications you will be undergoing before making a decision on the offer.

The on job training also difficult to measure the worth as compared to your ~42k losses.

So at least go down first and listen to what they have to offer. If not worth, then don’t sign on that day.

I am a PM in IT industry. I sign up for this training out of interest, and hope to specialise in cybersec. My company is moving towards cloud, so I am able to get exposed and learn cloud. There is a data analytics department in my company. If I want to switch over I should not have any problem. I have also experience in deep learning, machine learning.

I am concerned on the cpf loss for 2 years and whether we can be employed by the financial institution after the job attachment.

Do you have any idea whether the allowance received is taxable or not?

By right, by consider CPF lost, the nett is only ~$4700 ($5500/1.17). Any fresh grad with 3-4 years experience can easily get that amount.

So the only thing is boil down to whether are you keen to take on new challenges / free training.

If factor in AWS, bonuses and 17% employer CPF contribution, total sum divided by 12 months will be more than 5.5k per month. Guess most mid career professionals will suffer a pay cut by accepting the offer.

I presume those who got the offer are drawing higher pay than 5.5k?

If one’s main consideration is money i.e pay cut or not, then suggest u reject the offer as you need more than passion for money to survive.
