I wonder how much different of a data analytic role be in these 2 companies. And I also wonder how come the requirements for data analytics are lower than the other 4 tracks.
hi jgyy,

how much different of a data analytic role in SGX and Dymon?
this is an interesting question.

SGX is in the business of market operator and surveillance. Millions of of transaction take place at the exchange daily, be it equity trading, futures, options and other exotic derivatives. It also function like a 'policeman' of the marketplace, making every market participant abide by the market rules and 'catch' those that violate the market rules and regulation. As you can see, it has alot alot of data on a daily basis. with so much data, SGX is a perfect place for data scientist to pull the data, clean them, put them through some statistical learning models, make some business sense out of them, and present the insight to the management and stakeholders in the form of data visualization. Another huge use of market data is to use to catch crooks who try to manipulate the market to their advantage, in the hope of making money in an illegal way.

As for Dymon, a hedge fund, it's sole existence is to make investment gain in the market for it's investors. it has no public duty to perform like SGX. hedge fund is out to make money through their trading or investment strategies. usually, they have finance quantitative guys who are well versed in programming and statistics, who research the market to derive alpha value (fund return - market return) the trading models that they created. hence, you will expect the data analytics aka scientist folk there to do very different things from the folks at SGX. very stressful job but paid alot to be stressed. lol.

given that the data analytics track is 18 months instead of 24 months, i would think that the TFIP DA track focus primarily on training how to clean the data, do exploratory data analysis and especially data visualization since they are the folks who will present their data insight to the management or stakeholders. if the DA training also goes heavily on statistical learning and modelling, then the trainees will receive a full spectrum of a data scientist training which will likely take more than 18 months.

Wow that's a very detailed explanation. If you can convey that level of knowledge during the interview that will be very advantageous for you. I am not well versed in data analytics, so I cant comment much on the technical aspects or how each company applies data analytics.

As for the details of each company, I have a different focus on how I look at each FI and why I choose OCBC and UOB. Mainly because I seen article on agile software development being practiced on these 2 companies which interest me more than what the company does in general.

By the way just a side note, I have a long conversation with IBF career services and they told me that IBF have tried to convince the various FI to access the candidates based on their motivation and inspirations rather than to ask their technical knowledge or background. While IBF clearly stated that this is a traineeship and not a perm job, I believe that the employers would rather the candidates to actually contribute towards the team rather than continuous learning alone.
glad to share abit of what i know as i m working in the capital market industry.

on the team contribution, will be good if the trainee can contribute on day one. realistically, i think they know it will take time for new guys to assimilate, learn the rope and then pick up from there. cheers.

You don't need certifications to show your enthusiasm in DA. What I did was to mention the sources I used to learn and practice DA skills, talk about how you learnt and used SQL/python (Pandas especially). This will most likely get the attention of most companies that are participating in the selection.

However you must be able to demonstrate and answer question regarding the topics when asked, not just write it in your resume and forget about it. In my experience, first thing most people ask regarding topic of DA is how you use DA to bring benefit to the organisation, and how did you manipulate/gain insights from the data.

just got a call from DBS for AI interview next week.
Just talked to the hr for clarification.

My interview is not confirmed as the dbs is doing a pre-selection round now.

After the pre-selection round, they will shortlist candidates again for the final round of virtual interview. (can imagine many candidates applied and passed the assessment).

So, effectively, i did my pre-selection interview over the phone 2 days ago.

Now have to hope and pray. lol. :)

Just finished the call with deutsche for AI. Talked about my experience with software engineering. They asked why I want to join, what AI tools I used before, how I would use AI to solve problems in banking.

Good luck for everyone to be selected for actual interview though. For my case with the 2 FI, mine is actual video interview. I really hope that the hiring manager will actually share more insight on which team will I be assigned to if selected so that I can prepare the stack accordingly.
during the interview prep webinar, i remember the ocbc cybersecurity head mentioned there is only one interview. can't remember for uob cybersecurity, think 2 interviews.

anyway, all the best jgyy. from our posts and comments, i can see that you are the most qualified to be in this program. super prepared technically for the job. lol :)

Don't know what their roles are. They didn't introduce themselves. It was a conference call, headed by an Indian. I could hear a Singaporean and ang mo on the line as well. Don't think it's HR since the questions they asked and answered are quite tech related.

wah ... sounds like an all-in-one interview. manager + director + engineer. maybe only 1 interview if all parties are involved. all the best j4yp33 !

Hopefully they will have a good impression of you and offer you from July onwards though.

Good to hear that there are quite a few people in the conference call. Just curious, what questions did you pose to them?
How is the previous batch doing? What projects can I expect to be working on?

hmm... so there's another round.

30min to do 20 questions. simple maths (sec sch) and statistic questions. the maths questions have technique to solve in seconds so think first. the questions are kind of like pri sch GEP test questions.

i only manage to finish 15/20 in 30min and still pass

Submitted my pre-recorded interview with Goldman, didn't think i did too well because I was quite awkward LOL nobody to talk to just talking to myself.

Interview with Deutsche was with just 1 person, and it was quite ok 30min session.

Both for Data Analytics roles

Exactly. I think I answered well but I don't like the way I was presenting the answers. The software Hirevue uses AI to pick out these things.

I was quite surprised to be contacted for DA track. Was more confident with my AI track exam than the DA one.
which FI u applied for AI track? so far got hr called you regarding AI ?
