Also agree with u on the black bar. Perhaps they could have just leave a small strip at the top just to accommodate the sensors and front camera.

Having said that, swipe down from left, centre and right has each own feature. So that might explain the black bar or notch.

Guess it's something we all have to stick with, like the camera bump. Haha

From your photo, iPhone X still has higher screen-to-bezel ratio. I kinda like the notch. It’s unique to iPhone X. The tech inside that notch is industrial-leading and at least 2 years ahead of competitors.

i rather the top to be slightly longer to house the camera and speaker, rather than squeezing everything and having that ugly black bar now. If Samsung can do that with S8, i don't see why Apple can't.

Well Apple didn't mention anything and they don't have to. When you know about this industry and the tech behind it, it is easy to understand. Why not find me something as sophisticated and powerful similar to Face ID confined in a small notch?

I much prefer the notch design to having a uniform bar across. Just a straight line across looks boring to me

Don't get me wrong am all for hi tech ... own both google and apple phones As well as nexuses and iPads.

jus because they can, they choose not to. they don't take the easy way out.

the notch contains the required components for Face ID.
now they can say they used 100% of available surface area.

and maybe the notch is one of the reason why OLED is so hard to yield

Even their OLED display assembly is way different to Samsung's thats why Samsung charges them a premium over it and Apple has a hard time getting good yield.

when you watch video full screen the black part block the right side of the screen so you can't see the full screen image

That is when you go zoom in full screen. You can watch the video without the notch.
