Sometimes its not the specs that counts, the software processing also play a big factor which in this case is favoring more towards Apple. Unless Sony gave the option of RAW output....

If software processing is in Apple's favour then how come iPhone 6s only to rank 10th place? That says a lot about iphone 6s camera.

Its no surprise that iPhone 6 only managed 10th place because they are still using an old 1/3" sensor and only bumped up the resolution from 8mp to 12mp whereas the Z5 uses an all new 1/2.3" sensor. The other Android flagships that outscore the iphone 6s have sensor sizes ranging from 1/2.3" to 1/2.6". So the smallest sensor still belongs to the iphone 6s. That is what you get when Apple puts in lower spec hardware and try to optimise it with software.....and rips off consumer by charging top dollar

Apple doing what they do best, using lower specs and produced great results. Willing buyer willing seller but one can't deny that iphones produced the overall better photos. Noise is well controlled, colors are well balanced etc. Just take a look around the web be it in Flickr, 500px, forums. Ranking doesn't matter.

Sony can solve their pathetic software photo processing by letting the user shoot the image in Raw. They have all the hardware but letdown greatly by their software side which is always the case for Sony. Still I will be getting a Z5/Z5 Premium and praying that the RAW option will be available in future firmware updates.

To be honest. DXO is very strictly a very Scientific look at picture quality. But pictures are more than just plain science. And Photographers would know. these measurements aren't everything. Also, Fujifilm use really old sensor technology, but the processing and unique pattern array for their sensors still lets it be comparable to new cameras as well. Also, Have you seen the RX100 or m4/3? They use a smaller sensors (compared to dslrs) but still deliver good image quality.

How an Image looks and compares to the competition is very much also due largely to personal opinion, for example I dislike Sony's Noise processing for their JPGs. This stretched from their Digital cameras and Phones. They tend to have very mushy details esp when ISO is pushed. But thats my personal opinion. I know of people that are okay with it or even like it.

All in all, I personally think bringing up the points of sensor sizes, ''technology'' (even tho you d't really know if they didn't do anything to the sensor), synthetic benchmarks and ending off with ''how apple rips customer off'' is a view thats not objective at all (if we want to talk about being objective and looking at facts)

OMG. There wasn't any phone to buy this month so I got the iPhone 6S Plus. Waiting for November is too long.

True, image quality can be subjective but I am not impressed with the iphone 6s camera at all. I havent tried the z5 and the nexus 6P but to my eyes the camera of the G4 and S6 is better than the iphone 6s and coincidentally DXOmark shares the same opinion. Anyway sceintific tests means nothing to you if your eyes don't agree with what you see.

So in the end we buy what we like and that's what matters. I am the minority that likes Sony's image judging from sales figures ( of course the camera is not the only deciding factor). Most won't agree but like I say we buy what we like and that's all that matter.

Need to process the photo, no time.
Need to have more capacity sd card, don't need.

I just use the out of camera jpg.
Doesn't bother me anyway :)

I've tried the 6S too and the image quality was little underwhelming. So I kinda expected not that high a score. But I thought the 4K video recording quality was pretty good. Thought that might help help the 6S get a better score. Haha.

My own personal rating of the camera is pretty similar to DXO. S6 is ahead of the G4 to me too. And both ahead of the z3 and z3 plus. But I'm one of those who are not a huge fan of Sony's image processing. Haha. But still looking forward to giving the z5 series a go. And the Nexus 6p too.

from picture, green looks nice but when I see the demo phone in NEX and 313 and feels that gold or black is nicer for Z5

The iPhone 6S camera was talked up by Apple for the inclusion of a number of new technologies to create better images, as well as for boosting up the megapixel count to 12 on the rear camera. It can also now record video in 4K instead of just Full HD.

The Z5 meanwhile sports a massive 23MP camera and Sony is very proud of its "hybrid autofocus" technology, which enables the camera to focus in just 0.03 seconds.
