By the time the 5700 hits our shores, it'll be just a few months away from Richland being launched in US... which would be only a few more months to Kaveri. :(

Agree, availability is something that AMD needs to work on else customers may move on to something else and the potential sale is lost...

Undervolting the A8-5600K
Stock is 3.6GHz@1.3875V, turbo boost is disabled for these tests

As can be seen, the undervolted 5600K load temps are simply great at only ~40C in Prime 95 Blend.

NB: voltages are not precisely fine-tuned for the clocks and given more time and patience, the actual vcore needed may be lower. YMMV.

A8-5600K Real World Measurements

The A8-5600K is now transferred to another rig and encased for real world testing, the compact mATX casing used is the >6 year old IN WIN BT IW-BT610 with bundled 240W TFX PowerMan PSU previously mentioned in this same thread. Storage is a 7.2K rpm Seagate Barracuda 500GB HD. The most stressful thing running on this rig for now is probably long periods DOTA2 gaming over the weekends.

A8-5600 with HD7560D | ASRock FM2A85X Extreme4-M | 8GB KVR1600 | AMD 4 heatpipe HSF | 240W TFX PowerMan

Measurements were done with hobby class instruments...

hwinfo64 reports a max load APU temp of ~50C only - makes a really nice cool and parsimonious gaming rig for non-hardcore gamers. :)

It looks like they've finally gotten some capacity at TSMC and hopefully that would be helping a lot in correcting their design->delivery latencies.
Maybe a 5600 followed by a 6800 upgrade would be good.

AMD APU silicons are produced by Globalfoundries..

And you should look ahead at Kaveri next year. Richland is a mere graphics update and slight node shrink (32 to 28nm) similar to what AMD did for Brazos 2.0.

Was testing some new mobo BIOS releases so decided to do a bit of transcoding stress tests on one of the 5800K rigs to see if it can be fast enough for my impatience, it performed not too bad actually with nearly 250fps on the 2nd pass.

Feedback & Turnaround Time
Gave some feedback early this morning about the latest beta BIOS issue/s so they got back to work, deboned it, cooked it some more and delivered this a few minutes ago, check out the cooking date... heheh, bravo guys!

There're reports of TSMC being involved now, though exactly which specific models/families, is still unknown.

I'm just worried they might do a FM3 socket for Kaveri - I was one of those who thought FM1 would stick around longer considering their experience with AM2->AM2+->AM3.

Jun 2013... I don't know if I can wait another six months. :(
Supposed to be Trinity in Jul 2012! One year overdue... and by then Kaveri would be forecast for Dec 13 I bet. Arghhhh...

yesterday tested the intel i965 linux driver with hardware acceleration on sandy and ivy bridge, with vaapi enabled mplayer from a ppa repo.

result is pretty positive, it cuts cpu utilization from 40% to abou5 15% while playing 1080p video, all cores/threads remained stable at the lowest speedstep of 1.6ghz flat.

best part i965 driver is integrated unlike the ATI ones requiring an update or reinstall when the kernel is up-reved.

sigh, yet another reason not to get amd rig with ati gpu.

Look on the bright side, it's a painless swop upgrade unlike Haswell...

It's here, thanks to an early shipment from Taiwan!!!! :)

Got back a little late from the Asus-Nvidia meet so decided to spend just a little time setting up the test rig and got down to a little clocking and some video transcoding to feed the iPhone/Galaxy Note II, it's already past 3am now so.... Zzzzzz.

Seems to have a fair bit of vdroop under heavy load but both transcoding jobs completed successfully with good results. :)

Big thanks to my kakis at Asrock Taiwan for rushing over this preview sample to me yesterday, before the CNY holiday festivities and long break kicks in.

Asrock FM2A85X-ITX
A85 chipset, 7 SATA ports, 4+2 phase power with heatsinks, dual-Stack MOSFET, premium caps... is this the ultimate FM2 ITX mobo to lust for? :D
