Wild guess: the situation in Hong Kong might be driving some people, particularly those with Hong Kong-based interests, to gobble up some gold. Hopefully democracy will peacefully prevail and endure, and then that particular source of speculative demand will subside.

I'm not sure if it can be attributed to HK protest though. That's making a mountain out of a molehill. If indeed it's due to hk, then damn the media are really doing their best. In any case, dxy hasn't drop alot relative to rise in gold so it has to do with some speculation I presume.
