Hi guys, I have been reading this thread extensively for the past few days and I hope to seek some feedback / recommendations with regards to my upcoming purchase.

I am looking to purchase a black belt and I am deciding between Carmina Black Cordovan Belt and Equus Bridle Leather Belt.

My main consideration is durability / longevity of the belt. I am leaning towards Carmina Black Cordovan Belt but I understand that it is probably a 2-3 piece Cordovan leather belt and I was wondering if this would affect the belt's longevity.

The 2-3 pieces of cordovan are attached together by stitching in a belt.
In terms of durability/longevity, stitching may fray but there's not really much concern with carmina's quality.

The more important thing to consider is material (prefer calfskin or cordovan?) and aesthetic.
Cordovan is less formal, not only due to the material, but also because of there being extra stitches to attach the pieces together.

If you can only get one, I would recommend you get a black calfskin belt.
It pairs better with dress shoes such as the quintessential black calfskin captoe oxford.

Ah that makes perfect sense. I will purchase a black calfskin belt first then, before adding the rest to my collection

Not including the cost of buckles which can cost more than the belt. Equus leather had a 20% store wide sale recently and I got a mini heart attack when I saw the price of the rose gold plated buckle.

stitching depends la, those with all round stitching for edge price sure knn if handstitched. more likely machine stitched.

handstitch i doubt its also from a whole single thread since its length is easily x2.5 of the whole belt circumference to be stitched.... way too unwieldy to saddle stitch.

simple basic belt styles, just use belt blank then secure buckle and keeper with 2x chicago screws/snaps or with short stitching/rivets

Decent belts using full-grain leather, at decent prices.
I have 2 belts from them, they use soft leather that is nice to the touch but creases easily.

Decent for the price ($50~)

No edge finishing, buckle is squeaky where the leather loops around it. Extremely strong smell coming from it (chrome tanned process maybe?)

Recommend to save up and get better brands.

Their default buckle colour is brass though :/ Say if I were to get a black belt, I feel kinda being forced to pay an additional 30-50 pounds for their palladium coated buckle

Their default buckle material is stainless steel and you can just pay a few pounds for nickel.

Informal or formal belt?

If informal one can just get a belt blank + buckle, or orion/british belt co/DMO/etc. belt off Massdrop when it's available.
These kind usually no burnished edges, etc.

Formal belt I don't think you can get below 50.
