A lot of online merchants sell filson, wide network of distributors. I've been using their bags for a while now, the construction is top notch but bags are too heavy. Very tiring to use them for prolonged periods.

Any other brands with a more formal/less casual aesthetic worth checking out? I think mismo falls into that category, but not impressed by the price point vs value

How about qwstion?

Been carrying my favourite Black Tatonka Andro 20 for nearly 7-8 years for work & normal outing.

What is most unique about it is NOT their "X Vent Vario Carrying-System that provides the optimum combination of load distribution and ventilation" but rather this system comes in a small 20 liters capacity that is suitable as a 1 day backpack.
This bag even has a zipper compartment at the bottom of the bad that stores the rain cover that can double up as a secret compartment.

It cost me about $130+ back then (which is resonable to me) & worth every $$$

Why change then you ask?

Been carrying for so long & althought is is still in pretty good condition, I needed something with more compartments, built-in pocket/organisation system & most importantly, offers similar "back system".

Some criteria in point form for easy understanding:-
- Good "back" system provide good ventilation
- many compartments
- Built-in pocket/organisation system
- Black colour

- sleek looking (if possible)

Did do some minor search & came across:-

GoRuck GR2 really comes close but:
1) 40 liters is simply too big for a 1 day backpack.
2) 500+ is not justifiable to me for a 1 day backpack
3) "back" system is ok only

GoRuck GR1 :
Too simplistic

So any bag recommendations?

This is the Andro 30 for reference

I prefer filson against gnome and bow. The heritage factor itself already wins hands down. Not that Im not supporting local brand gnome and bow, but I'm just a sucker for such stuff.

I'm sucker for that toughness n heritage also, end up I got the gnome n bow as gift from my gf, she thought that gnome n bow looked nicer than filson. For me, I think both bags have their own good looks.

I have the Goruck GR0 (had the GR1 but sold away for a GR0, due to torso length comfort) and I can say that the advantage is in it's simplicity. You just buy MOLLE pouches and other accessories to zhng it the way you want it. Ventilation is not very good tho cause the air channels are almost non-existent.

You can also look at this. Construction seems solid and pretty much similar to Goruck but a little more trendy.

The quintessential work bag for organisation is the Tom Bihn Synapse 25. You can search online for the many many reviews.
Synapse 25 - Checkpoint Friendly Laptop Backpack - TOM BIHN

But i really doubt you can find a sleek bag with back suspension as you mentioned. Have not seen it anywhere :s12:

Regarding ther GR1 & GR0, how tall are you? I am only 1.7m but i always find most backpack too short. Short ones just feel not right. The Andro 20 fit nicely at my back of my waist level with the 2 'wings' hugging my waist

If only the GR2 comes in 20L.

But thanks for the recommendation.

Haiz...so its true then, the Tatonka Andro 20 is the ONLY sleek bag with good back suspension system that is resonably priced.

Guess most likely i will be hanging on to it for many more years

Did a search when searching for photos to post here. Mostly found in sites in German language I think.

Locally do not think so. I got this like 8 years back.
Good if you can still get it.

Believe me when I say there is no other backpack like it.

How about qwstion?

I was at cumulus where most of these brands are stocked. The most overpriced thing I see is a jack spade.

Qwstion is not bad, the build quality quite top but overall more costly for that little leather on and the strapping system is abit redundant imo. Yes, U can change the straps for 2 in 1, but your things in your bag are going tilt over Everytime and some of the zip will be facing downwards when carrying it as a bag pack

I'm 1.74m. The key for backpacks is to measure your torso length (Backpacks: Finding Your Torso and Hip Size).
My torso length is about 20", which is the height of GR1, but since no one carries backpack right at the tip of your neck bone, the 20" will reach below my tailbone. GR0 is 18", which is just right for me. If you don't walk or move around a lot, then it probably does not matter here.

You can try some offerings from Osprey if you want the technical features.

anyone knows where else to get filson bag besides denimstore and robinsons?

Only these two are selling. Robinson only has two bags iirc, the medium satchel and this basic tote but with some funky yellow colors.

Denim store has more

I suppose your friend would want to use the bag for casual purposes as well, right?

I assume he's currently in Poly/University? In that case, a brown leather satchel would serve his agenda well.

Ladies love the classic look on Men at that age. Plus, the bag that a guy carries can really change your entire look.

I found one on Zalora that might actually suit your friend.

Buy River Island Brown Satchel | ZALORA Singapore

It is a River Island brown satchel. It looks minimalistic and timeless. Perfect for office/casual use.

I'll be happy to assist you if you require my opinions.

Cheers.
Reply is 5 years late bro. Anyway guys, what at some good bags for travelling? I've seen the andro 20 discussed here and it looks quite good to me. What's the pricing like and where can I get one? Any other recommendations?
